JAMMU, Apr 27: Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice DS Thakur today directed the State to pay Rs 2 lakh compensation to the victim of acid attack within a period of two weeks for meeting her medical expenses.
The direction was passed in a petition seeking compensation for meeting the medical expenses of Raman Lata, who is a victim of acid attack which took place in May 2012 at Badyal Brahmana Bus stop in R S Pura area.
Advocate BL Kalgotra appearing for the petitioner submitted that the victim requires constant medical treatment as major part of her body is affected by the acid. He submitted that Punjab & Haryana High Court in similar circumstances ordered to pay a sum of Rs 10 lakh as compensation.
Considering the submission of counsel for the girl, DB directed State to pay Rs 2 lakh to the girl for meeting the medical expenses. “The amount will be adjusted while arriving at the final compensation”, the DB added.
