Pay regular wages to casual, need based workers: Ex-MLC

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Apr 22: Former MLC and chief spokesperson of PCC, Ravinder Sharma has questioned the non-disbursement of wages to the daily wagers, casual labourers, need based, CP workers and the land donors in PHE, IFC and other such works departments, on regular basis, even in this time of crisis, when they are discharging their activities.
In a press statement here today, Sharma said along with these people even those who are land donors, having given their valuable lands worth lakhs of rupees, for creation of the infrastructure of the departments, on the policy of PHE, IFC to provide jobs in lieu, thereof. These youth were engaged on regular basis, from time to time, however, they are also not paid regular wages along with others, which is unfortunate.
He said that all these categories of workers are exploited the most, by the system, as they were promised regularisation, from time to time. Their number also rose enormously from 61000 in the year 2014,to over one lakh post 2014 in a span of two/three years during PDP- BJP coalition regime.
An SRO-520 was also issued for their regularisation, although not agreed by them, but an acceptance of their claim by the Govt more than two years thereafter, they run from pillar to post, for their meager wages and they are paid, on few occasions only in a year, which is unfortunate.
Ex-MLC made an appeal to the Govt not to play with their lives and at least pay them regularly to feed their families, till formal decision for their regularisation.
