The Patnitop aeril ropeway projects was inagurated by Ghulam Nabi Azad when he was the Chief Minister of our State. The project was the long pending demand of the Jammu region as it was expected that it would boost the tourism industry of our State. But before its construction work, it required approval from Forest, Tourism, Revenue and Environment Deparments. These departments had no objection and gave clearance for the same. Apart from that, the Hon’ble Supreme Court also gave a green signal to Patnitop Development Authority to go ahead with the project. After completing all these legal formalities finally it only required the approval of Forest Advisory Committee but the project met a last minute obstruction when the Forest Deptt did not include this project in the agenda of its Forest Advisory committee. This act of Forest Deptt raises finger over its intention. Agreed that the nod of the Supreme Court to increase the height of the tower is an issue which can be easily sorted out by the higher authorities. But by passing the buck on their juniors, it gave a last minute opportunity to delay its construction and execution work.
For many years the project remained entangled in the official labyrinth and now was left to be no bodys child. In order to fulfill the long pending demand of Jammu region, the Department without wasting any time should approve this project in a time bound manner and start its construction work as early as possible so that a decade old project will not wait for one more decade due to some official intricacies. The longevity of the project without any conclsion takes out all its sheen and people start disbelieving it.
