For well-known reasons, Ladakh is emerging as very strategic, very sensitive and very potential region lying along the northern frontier of India with China. Strategic importance and sensitivity of Ladakh increased suddenly after India meekly surrendered the sovereignty of Tibet to China. Now China has brought railway not only to Tibet plateau but has also linked her border with India in Ladakh with rail connection. This poses serious threat to the security of the northern border. India has to defend her northern borders at any cost and she is taking steps towards that direction.
Credit has to go to the people of Ladakh who have always demonstrated their patriotism and love for the motherland. They have made many sacrifices in protecting the northern borders of India. In Kargil war, Ladakhis have made glorious contribution which the Indian nation can never forget. Even today, Ladakhis in remotest regions of Nobra are cooperating with the army on spot in maintaining country’s northern frontiers safe and secure. We are glad to learn that a very responsible BJP MP who is also the former Chief Minister of Himachal, Shri Shanta Kumar has said that building broad gauge railway line from Pathankot in Punjab to Leh via Manali has been approved by the Union Ministry of Railways. We are excited that this rail connectivity will be undertaken by the Railways Ministry soon. It means a sea change in the life style of the people living in these vast hilly tracts. It means not only further strengthening our northern border but also bringing about sea change in the economy of the region which is mostly hilly and snow bound.
