JAMMU, Mar 4: The successful candidates were awarded Medals and Degrees as 17th Convocation of Jammu University was held here today.
In the presence of Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who was chief guest on the occasion, and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Pro-Chancellor of JU, Governor N N Vohra, Chancellor of the University, awarded 185 Doctorate of Philosophy degrees to the successful candidates of the year 2015 and 2016. The chief guest awarded Gold Medals, Cash Awards and Medals to 59 toppers of various faculties.
Minister of State in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh; Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh; Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta, Ministers, Advisor to Chief Minister, Prof Amitabh Mattoo; Legislators; Chairman State Accountability Commission, Justice B A Khan; Vice Chanc-ellors of all the Universities in the State; Director IIM Sirmour Prof Neelu Rohmetra, senior officers; faculty members of Jammu University besides scholars and students were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Arun Jaitley. N N Vohra and Mehbooba Mufti conveyed their best wishes to all the passing out scholars for their future careers and congratulated all those who had won medals and awards. They also appreciated the fact that women were far more in number than men in securing Gold Medals and PhD Degrees.
Earlier, Prof R D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University, presented the Vice Chancellor’s Report. He highlighted the achievements of the University since the last Convocation in April 2016 and JU future plan of action.
At the outset, the Academic Procession, led by JU Registrar Dr Meenakshi Kilam and comprising of the chief guest, Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, Members of the University Council, Syndicate and the Academic Council, entered the Hall. Proceedings commenced with the Registrar JU seeking permission of the Chancellor and declaring open the 17th Convocation.
Sachit Mahajan was awarded five Medals for MBBS, including the University Gold Medal.
