Parliament Logjam

To achieve any objective there have to be co-operative efforts. The leader should be a competent person who can lead and set an example of honesty, dedication, integrity, foresightedness and welfare of common man. These were the pillars on which our founding fathers won the long cherished freedom. What  has happened now? The principles of ‘You scratch my back, I will scratch Yours’ and “Make Hay While the Sun Shines” have become the order of the day.
The politicians have to set an example of their morality and ensure that  an environment is created so that honest and dedicated persons can perform. They forget about the welfare of the people who have elected them to resolve their problems which are clean drinking water, education, connectivity by good roads, employment, better transport facility by road/rail and day to day needs of essential commodities are made available to them at reasonable prices. Above all the transparent governance free from corruption. After getting elected our  legislators and Parliamentarians forget their electorate who elected them. They get all the facilities including Pension for themselves and go under hibernation till next election. The Parties forget their ‘Election Manifesto’ which should be The Bible for them. Muscle Power, illegal money and other illegal means are used to win the elections somehow. Parties are equally responsible for giving tickets to such candidates who do not have clean record and image. They are only concerned with the number game only.
Let all the parties co-operate with each other and differences if any can be sorted out by debating the pros and cons of the bill introduced. Any amendment if required can be legislated. One has to be pragmatic. Democracy is all about taking all the members of Legislatures and Parliamentarians together. Consciousness is to be arrived at before bills are introduced in Legislatures /Parliament. Members of Parties make provocative statements and do the things which other religions prohibit. Thus leading to greater confrontation on the issue. Ours is a pluralistic society. It is the duty of every one to respect the sentiments of other religions/faiths.
Disruption of Assemblies, both Houses of Parliament and discussing irrelevant issues which do not benefit any body and not even the Nation. What is required is to discipline those members who make Provocative Statements and tell them in clear and un-ambiguous manner to zip their mouth? Freedom of speech does not give any body right to hurt feelings of others. The blame game in august Houses should be stopped forthwith. It is the duty of The Party Presidents of respective parties to rein their unruly members and initiate necessary disciplinary action against them and if required their suspension from Party Membership. The primary duty of President of the Party, Captain of the Team and Captain of the Ship is to discipline their members. No non- sense should be tolerated. As is said “Sochoo, Samjo and Karoo which means “Think, Understand and then Do it or Say it”. The famous Hindi saying is ‘Kathni & Karni should not be different’. It means there should not be any difference what one says & what one does.
Nowadays there are many T.V.Channels including Door Darshan where Hon’ble Legislatures / Parliamentarians can come and debate the issues so that the common man is benefitted.
The time has come that our Hon’ble Members of Legislatures and Parliamentarians should gear up their efforts for improving the living conditions of the people of their constituency and do productive work in resolving their issues on priority so that the common man has not to run from Pillar to Post. Common man has been reduced cog in the wheel and no Legislature and Parliamentarian is there to help him. Let there be a Policy of reconciliation among our  Parliamentarians and bridge the trust deficit between them. Mud slinging will not yield anything rather it vitiates the atmosphere and erodes the thinking power. Performance should be key criteria and attitude should be of confirmation, co-operation and should not be of confrontation.
The monsoon session of Parliament was completely washed away in accusing each other which costed   the exchequer about Rs200.00 Crore and may be  more or less plus or minus 10%. The cost of running the parliament is Rs 2.00 Lakh/minute. Winter Session of both The Houses has met with the same fate.  Question arises can our country can bear this colossal waste of funds? This amount could have been better utilized in resolving the basic   issues of the common man.  Common man has been reduced to a cog in the wheel and no legislator and Parliamentarian is there to help him. As is said ‘The Real Dirt Lies in Our Minds’. Let us clean it.
Let us pray that our Legislatures/ Parliamentarians work in unison to resolve the problems of common man.
Our land is the land of Saints, Fakirs where Guru Nanak Dev ji, Kabir and many Sufi Saints who taught on tolerance and patience. The need of the hour is to follow their teachings and demonstrate these by brotherhood and love for each other. Let us fight poverty together so that all are prosperous in our land. Let India march ahead.
As late Dr. Sir Mohammad Iqbal wrote a poem DUAI-Prayer a line from that is “HU Mera Kam Garibon Ki Hamait Karna, Darmandon Ki Hammait Karna” which means ‘My Work should be To Help Poor and Destitute”. Let us carry his ideal.
