JAMMU, Nov 8: Parkash Purab (birth anniversary) of Guru Nanak Dev Ji was celebrated with great enthusiasm and religious fervour across the region by entire Sikh community and other followers of the great Guru today.

The main program (Gurmat Samagam) in this connection was organised by District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu at Gurdwara Yaadgar Sri Guru Nanak Sahib, Chand Nagar, Jammu from 10.00 am onwards. A large number of devotees from Sikh Community and other followers of Guru Nanak Dev Ji from different communities participated. The Gurdwara was highly decorated and the devotees started visiting since early morning to seek blessings of the great Guru.
On the 553rd Parkash Purab of the great Guru, Bhai Sukhwinder Singh Ji Dadehar, Sikh preacher of Gurmat Gian Missionary College, Ludhiana while speaking on the life and message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji said that great Guru traveled extensively to spread the message of peace and love for entire humanity and stressed for being selfless and Guru Nanak Sahib’s belief in brotherhood and equality can unite the entire world. He said that Guru Nanak Sahib’s stand against oppression and respect for women are other revolutionary messages for entire humanity.
Bhai Vikramjeet Singh Ji, preacher, Gurmat Gian Missionary College, Ludhiana also threw light on the teachings and life history of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Bhai Anokh Singh, Hazoori Ragi, Gurdwara Baba Budda Sahib, Sri Amritsar, Bhai Jugraj Singh, Hazoori Ragi, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Sri Anandpur Sahib along with local Raagi Jathas of DGPC Jammu recited Shabad Kirtan of Gurbani. Different stalls of various preaching organisations and Health department were also installed in premises of Gurdwara Sahib and Guru Ka Langar was served continuously for whole day.
Balvinder Singh, vice president while addressing the Sangat said that this time our whole team has decided not to present memorandum to the Government because number of such memorandums stand submitted to the Administration time and again on every such occasion. And if the Government is sincere in solving the problems of Sikh community the Government can take on board the elected DGPC members for addressing those problems.
ADGP Jammu, Mukesh Singh, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar. Deputy Commissioner Anvy Lavasa, Commissioner JMC Rahul Yadav, SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli, Harvinder Singh ADC Jammu, Kulbir Honda, SP City and other officers also paid their obeisance to the great Guru and greeted the people on this occasion.
Prominent political personalities who paid their obeisance on this occasion included- Ravinder Raina, president UT BJP, Yudhvir Sethi, senior BJP leader, Purnima Sharma ex- Dy Mayor, Rattan Lal Gupta, provincial president NC and others.
Stage was conducted by Surjeet Singh, general secretary, DGPC Jammu and Ranjit Singh, president, DGPC also addressed the gathering and thanked the administration and entire Sangat for cooperation and participation.
All the DGPC office bearers and members including Master Ranvir Singh- Joint Secretary, Jagpal Singh, Cashier, Harjeet Singh & Gurmeet Singh, Incharge Dharam Parchar Committee DGPC Jammu, Balvinder Singh, Tejinder Singh, Avtar Singh and Karan Singh Bali were also present.
Similar functions were held at various places including Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Akhnoor, R S Pura, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Kashmir, Leh etc to mark the Gurpurab celebrations across the region today.
