BHADERWAH, Dec 31: A deputation of parents of daily rated workers of Bhaderwah Development Authority (BDA) met former minister and Ex-MLA Bhaderwah, Mohd Sharief Niaz, here today and apprised him of their grievances.
They complained that wages of these workers have not been released from last three years, as a result their families are starving and living miserable life worst than baggers while their children are not able to get better education and the y are unable to get medical treatment whenever they fall ill.
They claimed that wives of some of these workers have even divorced their husbands as they could not tolerate starvation. “Despite working day and night, they threatened to be thrown out and disbanded from their service whenever they demand wages,” the delegation alleged.
Some of the parents of these bonded like labourers (daily rated workers) threatened that if wages of the workers are not released, they will commit suicide along with their children as there is no fun of living this miserable life.
Niaz gave patient hearing to the deputation and assured them that he will raise their voice at all forum to solve the problems. Niaz urged the State Governor Satya Paul Malik to issue orders at an earliest for release of wages of about 65 BDA daily rated workers besides their regularization.
Niaz said that BDA earn crores of rupees yearly from different sources and handsome amount of this income goes to the pocket of some employees which needs to be probed. “This also needs to be probed that why the wages are not drawn in favour of the DRW out of this income of BDA which these workers generate after working day and night, he added.
