JAMMU, July 23: Paramedical employees engaged in Government Medical Colleges Jammu and Srinagar and their associated hospitals under SRO 384 and SRO 409, today called off their strike on the assurance of Principal Secretary, Health & Medical Education Department, Atal Dulloo.
Shabir Ahmed Langoo, president, JKMEF, Srinagar, told Excelsior on phone that a joint delegation of JKMEF Jammu and JKMEF Srinagar had a meeting with Atal Dulloo in Civil Secretariat, Srinagar, this evening during which a detailed discussion was held on the demands of all the temporary employees like academic arrangement SRO 384/409 HDF/SDF/adhoc employees in the presence of Principal, GMC Srinagar, Dr Parvez Shah, Administrator in GMC Srinagar, Dr Firdous Giri and Principal, GMC Baramulla, Hamidullah.
He said one by one all the demands viz regularization of jobs, risk allowance, release of their pending salaries and release of 2 ½ days salary in favour of temporary paramedical staff who perform duties on Sunday and Gazetted holidays as per roster, were discussed threadbare with the Principal Secretary.
Shabir said that on the issue of regularization of jobs, the Principal Secretary said that the matter is sub-judice and if the verdict comes in the favour of the employees, the administration will implement it. In order to address other issues and demands, Shabir said that Duloo ordered constitution of two committees for two GMCs under their respective principals, which he said, will look into their demands and submit reports accordingly.
He said after the assurances of the Principal Secretary, the paramedics have called off the strike and resumed their duties from this evening.
President, Contractual Paramedics’ Association, GMC Srinagar, Hilal Ahmad Bhat also told Excelsior that the strike has been called off after meeting with the Principal Secretary and all the paramedics have returned to their duties.
Earlier in the day, hundreds of contractual paramedical employees of GMCs Jammu and Srinagar and their associated hospitals assembled in their respective premises and sat on hunger strike on 2nd consecutive day to press upon the Government to fulfill their demands.
