JAMMU, Mar 27: The para-medical students today held a protest demonstration in front of the office of the Principal Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and demanded re-checking of their examination scripts.
Hundreds of para-medical students assembled in front of the office of Principal of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and raised slogans against the Health Department, Principal GMC Dr Shashi Gupta and J&K Nursing Council.
The protesters were demanding re-checking of answer scripts of paramedical students besides publication of result in gazette.
One of the protesting students told EXCELSIOR that the paramedical students were penalized by the authorities conducting the para-medical exams as they declared 95 per cent students as failed.
He further said that the tenure of paramedical course was one and half year, but in J&K, the exams were held after four years, which shows the lethargic approach of J&K Nursing Council and allied departments, responsible for the conduct of the examination.
“The date of exams were cancelled and rescheduled by the administration and finally, when the exams were held after four years, out of over 13,000 students, around 1,000 students were declared qualified”, he said.
“GMC administration has declared the result of paramedical course only on its website. Moreover the marks obtained by the students are also not shown and students are declared as fail or pass, which is in violation of set norms”, he said.
He alleged that it is deliberate attempt to declare maximum of students as failed and a probe of entire matter should be carried out so that truth would be ascertained.
The protesters appealed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to personally intervene in the matter and issue directions to concerned department to re-check the papers of paramedical students.
