JAMMU, Sept 20: Alleging collapse of health care system particularly in rural and remote areas of Jammu region, score of JKNPP workers drawn from Samba, Ramnagar, Udhampur and Vijaypur held a vociferous protest outside office of Director Health Jammu.
The protesters led by Rajesh Padgotra, Provincial President, JKNPP raised slogans against the Health Minister and Director Health Services seeking adequate supply of medicines, equipments and doctors and para-medical staff in various staff deficient and ill equipped neglected health centres of the rural areas.
Launching a scathing attack on the functioning of health sector, Rajesh Padgotra expressed serious concern over the frequent reports of seizure of spurious drugs and medicines being supplied by the Health Department in various health institutions of the State.
He said that it was shocking that in several cases the drugs were purchased from blacklisted firms without following the proper procedure and without having any regard for the ingredients or the quality of the drugs merely to mint money at the cost of the life of the users.
Expressing concerns over the acute deficiency of para-medical staff and doctors in the rural areas, Khajoor Singh, senior JKNPP leader, sought the detachment of all such staff who had been attached in cities and towns for political and other extraneous considerations.
Flaying the transfer industry being promoted in Health Department, Narotam Singh, another JKNPP leader, said that while those having stay of five to seven years were allowed to continue at their respective places, the frequent pre-mature transfers of several others had raised many an eye brow with large scale complaints of corrupt practices in the irregular transfers.
