Panel suggests amendment in Police Act

SRINAGAR, Aug 29: The Committee on Subordinate Legislation of Legislative Assembly headed by its Chairman Advocate Abdul Haq today suggested amendment in Police Act.
The Committee, which met with its members Rafi Ahmad Mir, Ashok Kumar, Lal Chand, Peer Afaq Ahmad, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah and Engineer Abdul Rashid, gave their valuable suggestions in making the Police Act a viable and result oriented.
Threadbare discussion was held on Dowry laws, Home Guard Act, Police, Jail Manual and Laws, besides,over all working of the Fire and Emergency Services Department.
The panel observed that the Police Laws should be strong. so that the people get justice.
The Committee directed Home Department and Police Headquarters to constitute expert committee to make suggestions for replacement of Obsolete Laws and to make working of Police and allied wings of Home Department with the current times to the expectation of common masses.
Earlier, Additional Director General of Police, P.L Gupta briefed the Committee about the Police Law.
Later, the Director General Fire & Emergency Services Dr. G.A Bhat gave resume of the activities of the department.
Among others, Special Secretary Assembly M.R Singh, Additional Secretaries in Home, Director J&K Forensic Laboratory, DIG PHQ, DIG Prisons, Director, Defense Labour Procurement, A.I.G, P.H.Q and other officers of Home Department and Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.
