NEW DELHI, Apr 11: Various KP groups today staged a protest at Jantar Mantar here accusing Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed of making a “U-turn” on his plans to build composite townships for their settlement.
The All Parties Migrants Coordination Committee (APMCC) which organized the demonstration also termed the coalition between PDP and BJP in Jammu and Kashmir an “artificial arrangement”.
“Our struggle is against the artificial arrangement between the PDP, BJP and the Union Government. The way Mufti (Sayeed) is indulging in bluff he will be in trouble… If we return (to the Valley) how will the separatists blackmail the Government,” Sunil Shakdher of SK Foundation, an organisation working for the welfare of the migrant community, said.
Shakdher also warned the community against falling prey to the “false” promises of political parties and stressed that getting “recognised” as the rightful residents of the Valley was the need of the hour.
The protesters also burnt effigies of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, separatists and the Jammu and Kashmir Constitution.
Another leader, Shiv Kumar Bhatt, urged the government to show political will and to avoid being dictated by the terms of the separatists. “We will abide by any decision taken by the government of India after taking us into confidence. But AFSPA should not be revoked till the Pandits return to the Valley,” Bhatt said.
APMCC chief Ravinder Pandita demanded that an Apex Committee of ground level organisations be formed and a comprehensive plan be issued by the state and the central governments for their rehabilitation.
“The Union Government should not heed to separatists threats and should deliberate with like-minded parties in working out a workable and acceptable solution,” he said.
Kundan Kashmiri president KPC and Nancy Kaul a community activist said Pandits will return on their terms and conditions and not on the dictates of militants and separatists.
Kashmiri said that nothing except a Kashyap State is acceptable to community.
Another protest rally was held by Jagti Tenement Committee (JTC) at Jagti Jammu which was led by Shadi Lal Pandita its president. The protestors torched the effigies of Hurriyat leaders including Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Yasin Malik and Umar Farooq.
The protestors also condemned the statements of some anti Hindu organizations opposing the rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits in the township in Valley. While addressing the protestors Pandita demanded that satellite townships in Valley be immediately set up for rehabilitation of displaced Pandtis.
He said that separatists and militants have no right in deciding on rehabilitation of Pandits and community has every right to return to their homeland.
All Displaced Kashmiri United Forum while discussing the current scenario in the State in a meeting held here today under the chairmanship of D N Kissu has expressed serious concern over the statement of Mufti Mohammed Sayeed that Pandits will not be settled at a single place in a concentrated form.
The meeting said it reveals that CM has obliviously succumbed to the pressure of secessionist elements over the settlement of KPs.
The meeting said KPs are the torch bearers of the composite culture of Kashmir and with their exodus Kashmir has become a monolithic descent. The community is no more prepared to offer themselves as guinea pigs for further experimentation to revive the so called composite culture of Kashmir.
Kashmir Samiti Delhi (KSD) has also strongly condemned the Islamic elements, fundamentalists and JKLF leader Yasin Malik for creating hurdles in settlement of Pandits in Valley. KSD president, Vijay Raina said that separatists have forgotten that Kashmir belongs to Pandits.
Sampuran Kashmiri Sangthan president Rakesh Kaul has also asked the Hurriyat and separatists not to poke their nose in the matter. He said the Hurriyat was responsible for destruction of Kashmir and mass exodus of Pandits and they want to keep pot boiling for their vested interests. Kaul said this will not be tolerated any more now and Pandits will return to Valley on the terms and conditions set by the community itself.
