SRINAGAR: Government today said that Panchayat elections will be held this year in the State, where delegated powers with regard to funds and functions of 14 departments have been given to Panchayat Raj Institutions.
Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice Abdul Haq, replying to a question in the Legislative Assembly, informed that Panchayat elections shall be conducted by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the State for 2016 elections and an amendment in this effect in has also been made. The Minister said the Government has already delegated powers with regard to funds and functions to the extent of 14 departments and subsequently the concerned Administrative departments issued individual Government orders deciphering the devolution of 3Fs to the Panchayat Raj Institutions.
