RAJOURI, May 9: Panchayati Raj System is answer to many problems, which the people face at the village level.
This was stated by Dr Shehnaz Ganai, Member Legislative Council (MLC), while addressing Sarpanchs and Panchs of Rajouri and Thanna Mandi today.
Dr Shehnaz said Panchayats are basic pillars of democracy and asked the Panchayat members to make public service the standard of their functioning.
She said that Panchayats have an important function to perform in the sectors of social welfare, health, roads, communication and rural water supply.
She said that judicious spending as per public aspirations should be the standard of Panchayats to achieve.
She added that decentralization of powers and involvement of public representatives in the governance at grass roots is imperative to ensure equitable and holistic development of all the regions and sub-regions of the State.
After conducting the extensive block level meetings in district Rajouri, Dr Shehnaz Ganai held interaction session with officers of 14 departments of whose various functions have been transferred to Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI).
She said that the Government has fulfilled its commitment to empower Panchayati Raj representatives in the true sense and much headway has been made in ensuring their empowerment.
District Development Commissioner Rajouri FC Bhagat was also present among other Sectoral officers of the 14 departments.
