Panchayat elections

Sir,
With dissolution of Panchayats, local machinery to accelerate and execute the developmental works has virtually come to a halt. Not only this, even genuine public works remain undone. It is another thing that even Panchayati Raj System proves unfruitful when the Panchayat bodies fail to discharge their duties properly either due to their inherit incapabilities or vested interests. Prevalance of corruption in the shape of commissions, very much vogue in  the system, severely undermines quality of works, casteism, communalism and party politics do not lag behind in its failure.
Panchayati Raj system is unique in nature and an ideal political system wherein people govern themselves. But unfortunately, lack of dutifulness and excessive greed has almost derailed everyone from the path of truthfulness and honesty and therefore, members of Panchayat can’t be an exception to this evil.
Science of opportunism can’t be denied in this materialistic world. Privilege of contracts extended to the Panchayat members also contributes for poor execution of the works. In short, what is actually needed, is streamlining of the system by plugging the loopholes to check and control the malpractices in the system. If giving and taking of commission is stopped, everything, as required and desired, will not remain unachieved. However, formation of Panchayat bodies by elections, at the earliest can’t be overemphasised.
Yours etc..
