The protest started at about 9 AM and continued for about two hours during which the protesting people also blocked Patoli-Paloura road and disrupted vehicular traffic. They also raised slogans against the concerned MLA and Corporator for not paying heed to their woes, and also burnt their effigies.
While speaking to the media, Raju Bharti, one of the protesters, said that the road linking Paloura to Janipur road near Dreamland School is closed since August this year when a stretch of it was swept away by flash flood in a deep and open nallah beside the road.
He said that in last three months, people of the area gave many representations to the JMC officials and UEED Department and ran from pillar to post with a request to repair the nallah and road but despite a lapse of three months, nothing was done by either of the departments.
“We approached every concerned person– local MLA, Municipal officers and UEED officers but everybody gave assurance and did nothing on the ground. Now we are doubtful whether there is any administration or not in the State”, another protestor said.
He said 33 KV power transmission line passing through the area can be damaged any time as electric poles near the broken nallah has tilted due to sinking of earth. He said their every appeal to repair the nallah has fallen into the deaf ears of the authorities.
Hearing the news of the protest and road blockage, a police team from police station Janipur reached the spot and tried to pacify the protestors but the latter were adamant to their demand of written assurance from the authorities. Later, Tehsildar of the area, Rafiq reached the spot and on his assurance that the work will be started on the nallah as well as road within five days, the protestors dispersed and lifted the blockade.
