“This is a futile exercise. Nothing concrete will happen until or unless India talks to Pakistan on Kashmir. We will not be able to arrive at any solution if India only talks to Kashmiris. We should try and solve this issue which can otherwise result in hostilities between the two neighbouring nations,” the former Hurriyat Chairman Abdul Ghani Bhat is quoted to have said when the four of the Parliamentarians’ group tried to meet him while he refused to talk to them and made it clear it has been decided that no talks will be held with the delegation members.
“My organisation has not mandated any talks with the parliamentarians. I cannot have any talks because of position taken by my organisation,”AIMIM leader Assadudin Owaisi is also quoted to have said of his similar experience with the moderate Hurriyat leader after his failed attempt at meeting the Mirwaiz.
However after the Owaisi’s scoring a naught, the group comprising four MPs — -CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPI leader D Raja, JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav and RJD’s Jay Prakash Narayan went to meet Mirwaiz and were with him for about 15 minutes albeit the same response.
At Geelani’s residence, the Senior Hurriyat leader is reported to have seen them from the window but refused to meet them.
When the same group went to meet JKLF chief Yaseen Malik, who is under detention at BSF camp in Humhama, where the later instead is said to have told them that he will talk when he visits New Delhi.
Earlier, the separatists rejected Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s invite for meeting with all-party delegation, terming such a measure as “deceitful” and insisting that it cannot be an alternative to a “transparent agenda-based dialogue to address the core issue”.
Notwithstanding all this, the intensions of the visiting delegation have been show-cased and can be comprehended by this JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav’s comment, “It is our effort to show that we are ready to talk to anyone whether they agree to meet or not,”.
All this reminds one of the private conversation which the then Chief Minister Sadiq had with the group of fire victims of Batmaloo (where allegedly shelter, in those days, was rampantly provided to Pakistani agents and the area had later, allegedly, been decongested by the security apparatus albeit through their own ways and means). Sadiq, (as told to this Scribe by a source privy to what transpired there), had been very critical of the common perception that only those heads donning Karakully (an expensive indigenous Kashmiri skull-cap normally worn by most well-to-do Kashmiris) contain all the brains in the world and all those skulls covered by then valued 2-Paisa Gandhi-Topi carry no grey matter! (Gandhi-Topi is an ordinary Khadi skull-cap made popular initially by the freedom fighters fighting against British colonial rule and now worn sparsely by the Indian Political class).
As then, so now- neither has the status of our beloved Kashmir changed much nor has the very common perception but true to Sadiq’s connotation spewing pun, the All Party Delegation, once again, on its part, has not only done the soil testing but also gone back with the solid sample which they would use to show-case their point that it is Pakistan which is for menting the trouble. And on its part, the Karakully, (so to say, if we continue using Sadiq’s analogy) have once again readly given them the scope to do so, especially after the one-voice-no-to-talks, for how then could one negate the assumption that Separatists are not walking the Paki talk.
Besides one more question has been rendered by the All Party delegation in the public domain for every one, including common Kashmiris, to ponder upon which is ‘Whether it is Separatists’ camp which is leveraging Pakistan or rather it is Pakistan which is leveraging the Separatists, jointly?’.
And if it is Pakistan which is leveraging Separatists then the Azadi plank of the Separatists, in turn, is just a mere eye-wash for in case Pakistan is calling the shots it is their un-fulfilled territorial ambition which is at play through proxy and the Separatists are just helping Pakistan to realize Pakistan’s long cherished goal of annexing whole of Kashmir into Pakistani fold (sans the portion already gifted to the compulsive friend China) and in a sense take revenge of Bangladesh.
While, the Separatists have rather succeeded in hood-winking the hapless Kashmiri public, by making them fathom as if by saying that they are currently using Pakistan to attain Azadi from India and no sooner than it is achieved it would use India to get rid of Pakistan and attain Azadi then from Pakistan so as to ultimately become completely Azad. This is clearly a deceptive methodology to, in turn, keep their own pot boiling in order to sustain wielding tremendous pressure upon the general populace for enjoying great power sans accountability and continue making hay while the sun shines on the Separatists’ camp.
For now, when the Mainstream political parties having almost lost the constituency and people are rather under great pressure, the present Indian dispensation has rather no option but to deal sternly with Pakistan while at the same time remove the fear of guns from mainland Kashmir. The low intensity war with Pakistan through surgical strikes on terrorist infrastructure can never be an uncertainty.
