KOLKATA: Ahead of their first match against Bangladesh in ICC World Twenty20, Pakistan boosted their morale by beating the title holders Sri Lanka by 15 runs at day-night in warm up play at Eden Gardens here today.

Batting first Shahid Afridi side made 157/5 in 20 overs and then bowled out Angelo Mathews brigade 142 in 9 wickets. Pakistan began in shakily conceding first two wickets in 47 runs but took control on the game as the first down Mohammad Hafeez hammered 70 not out hitting nine boundaries and a six in 49 balls.

He was aided by opener Sazeel Khan, who scored 23, the second highest scorer for the Pakistani. Then Pakistan bowled on line and length restricting the 2014 t20 winners to 142/9.

Left-arm orthodox spinner Imad Wasim emerged as the highest wicket taker with 4/24, followed by Md Irfan with two wickets in 18 runs. Shahid Afridi, who was was out on duck, conceded 40 runs in four overs without taking any wicket.

Pakistan, who were beaten by Bangaladesh in Asia Cup in Mirpur recently, will take on Bangadesh in the first match in Group 2 on March 16 at Eden Gardens. Sri Lanka will take on qualifier Afghanistan on the following day at Eden Gardens. (AGENCIES)
