SRINAGAR, Mar 7: Residents of Pakherpora and adjoining villages in central Kashmir’s Budgam district observed complete shut down after Friday prayers to demand merger of their the area with Pulwama district.
The residents have been demanding merger with Pulwama district saying that their present district headquarter falls 53 kilometres away, while as Pulwama is just 18 kilometres from Pakherpora town.
The villages which demand merger with Pulwama district include Pakherpora (Main), Chraripora, Shankarpora, Mohanpora and Karpora.
Residents of the villages said that the demand was not a recent but dates back to 1975 but was turned always due to political interest of one single person.
