Almost entire LoC in Poonch and Rajouri sectors in Jammu range has become live. In Kashmir Division, Nowgam sector in district Kupwara is also witnessing incessant firing and shelling by Pakistan. Pakistani side has adopted the new tactics of shelling civilian population and structures. In Nowshera sector Pakistan army has been targeting civilian population particularly the school buildings. At least three school buildings have been targeting and in one case a mortar fell on the roof of the school building and the students and the teacher had a narrow escape. In all 261 students and teachers who were locked in the school building as bullets and mortars rained, were rescued by the police and the army jawans and taken to a safe camp.
Targeting civilian personnel and structures is prohibited by international law in a conflict case and it is gross violation of human rights. Pakistan has been making the human beings as targets when its troops open fire to gives cover to the infiltrators who would like to sneak into the Indian Territory. In Pakistani firing and shelling one Indian soldier was martyred in Nowshera sector and one in Nowgam sector. While Nowshera is a plain tract of land, Nowgam is a mountainous region in thick forests and verdure in which it is easy for an intruder to hide.
There are few reasons why Pakistan army is becoming frustrated and it is in a state of frustration that she has to do some mischief here and there. Perhaps Pakistan is under the false impression that militant groups especially the Hizbul Mujahedeen and LeT have intensified their terrorist activities in the Valley and this synchronises with making the border live to force dispersal of troops on India across a wide spectrum of fighting scene. It is for Pakistan to come out of such wishful thinking. For last twenty-seven years she has been sending the jihadis into Kashmir. Have they been able to take a single inch of land? As far intensification of terrorist activities in the Valley is concerned, these militant organizations know that more and more people in the Valley are bringing information to the army and police about the hideouts of the militants and their movements. The days have gone when the civilian population was forced by the militants to come out and obstruct the military operation to flush out the terrorists. Indian army and police force have established firm grip on the situation in the valley and in coming days, anti-terror strategy will be further intensified to finish the odd terrorists in the entire Valley. The civilian administration is tightening the noose around the militants and over ground workers and the net is widened to catch hold of hawala mafia. Financial sources of the militant organizations are getting dried with the noose tightened by the ED. Many separatist stalwarts have fallen in the net and more are yet to follow suit.
On international level, India has been able to convince the world community through strong and irrefutable evidence that Pakistan is lending all possible help to the terrorists in Kashmir. This is the reason why the US recently designated United Jihad chairman Salahuddin as international terrorist. This was a clear signal to Pakistan that the US is convinced that Pakistan is allowing terrorists and jihadis to use its soil for launching attacks on neighbouring countries. Therefore, President Trump has sent a clear and loud message to Pakistan to desist from sending non-state actors across the border. Though, Trump was speaking specifically keeping the Haqqani group of Hizbe Islami in Afghanistan in his mind yet he did not lose sight of Pakistan’s perfidy in Kashmir.
India will respond to Pakistan’s unprovoked firing and shelling as strongly as possible. Pakistan knows that India can do much more than what she is contemplating to do against us. Pakistan is under a false impression that there is serious tension between India and China in Sikkim and the resultant standoff between the two troops is an opportunity of intensifying terrorist activities in Kashmir to test the patience of India. On military level Pakistan has already tasted what Indian soldiers are capable of doing.
