‘Terror hotspot is now tourism hotspot’

SRINAGAR, July 14: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today said that strike calls in Kashmir called from Pakistan are a thing of the past and now the peace has returned and schools and colleges function normally.

The LG while addressing a gathering of students at the concluding ceremony of Multimedia Exhibition at SP Higher Secondary School, Srinagar said that almost every year, Kashmir would witness strike calls for almost every day and that gone are the days when school and colleges would remain closed in the Valley.
“Gone are the days when people would give hartal calls which resulted in closure of schools and colleges in Kashmir. Today, all 365 days of the year pass off peacefully with schools, colleges, universities functioning normally. Hartals are a thing of the past in the Valley where business of all sectors is flourishing and the economy growing,” he said.
The LG said for almost 150 days a year, Kashmir would witness hartals and shutdowns on the calls of Pakistan and stooges backed by it.
He said people of Kashmir are reaping the benefits of peace. “One can see youth playing music at Jhelum river front and students enjoying reading as well,” he said.
Sinha said that J&K was known as the terror hotspot but now a days, the region is known as “tourism hotspot.”
“Last year, 1.88 crore tourists visited J&K and this year, we are eying more than 2 crore tourists,” he said.
The LG said that without peace, development and progress wasn’t possible in J&K. “Youth are the future of J&K and the country. We need your support to take forward J&K on all fronts,” he said.
Sinha said J&K is part of the growing economy of India. “Indian doctors made us proud by providing vaccines against COVID to dozens of foreign countries,” he said and sought students’ support in making India the strongest nation across the globe.
“Together, we have to create a developed Jammu and Kashmir in “Amrit Kaal” and it should be our collective responsibility to ensure every city and village aims higher and realizes their aspirations,” he said.
The LG said that women and youth are the architects of Jammu and Kashmir’s strong and glorious future.
“I would like to tell you that every day more than 500 new entrepreneurs are starting their business in Jammu and Kashmir. A new startup is being put available by the youth every next day for the country”, Sinha said.
He said Rs 24000 cr worth works are going on in Jammu and Kashmir. “I assure you that within the two years there will be a minimum Rs 75000 cr industrial investment will arrive on the land of Jammu and Kashmir”, he added.
