Pak pumping in drugs via mafia: Team Jammu

JAMMU, July 29: Expressing serious concern over deaths of two youths due to suspected drug overdose in Jagti belt, 12 kms from here, Chairman Team Jammu Zorawar Singh Jamwal on Sunday lashed out at Pakistan for pumping in drugs through drug mafia with sinister designs to exploit youth here.
“As per unconfirmed reports, two of our youths have allegedly died due to drug overdose in less than 10 days in the past one month in Jammu district and the matter is of grave concern,” he said while addressing an impressive gathering at Jagti Township in Nagrota this morning at awareness camp, organised by Team Jammu on drug abuse.
The function was jointly organized by local youth of Nagrota belt and Youth of Jagti (KPs) while SSP Rural, Dushyant Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion.
Maintaining that Police was  doing a great job by seizing contrabands  being smuggled outside the State but the sad affair was  that  big fishes  running the trade were  still at large,  Zorawar Singh stressed that  arrest of couriers or conduits would  not solve the problem unless the police reaches to the collars of the mafia.
“The locals keep informing volunteers of Team Jammu about drugs consumption and its supply on regular basis and sometimes the facts are shocking,” he added.
Zorawar suggested for enhancement of manpower to fight against the menace and said that the officers of particular area or locality must be made accountable on check over drug cases in his jurisdiction and he must also be dealt with stern hands by the concerned officers if fails to curb such incidents.
SSP Dushyant Sharma assured all help and cooperation. He also passed on the spot directions to his subordinates to tighten noose against drug operators and mafia to secure future generation. He urged the society as whole to come forward and help police in crushing drug abuse.
SDPO, Nagrota, Yashbir Singh Slathia, SHO, Nagrota, Inspector Deepak Pathania were also present on the occasion.
On the occasion, Team Jammu rewarded Ankiya Bhgati, Megha Pandit (11th Class students), Bhavika Bhat (12th Class) with cash prizes for their address over the ill effects of Drug abuse. Vinod Zuthsi, Naveen Gosami, Rajinder Dhar, Roop Krishan Bhat, Deepak, Rakesh Jamwal, Arun, A K Sadhu, Shuban, Akshay, Ravi and Ramesh Kumar also spoke on the occasion.
