Pak envoy be sent back over meeting with Hurriyat leaders: Cong

NEW DELHI :  The Congress today slammed the  Pakistan Government over the meeting of its High Commissioner Abdul Basit with Hurriyat leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani  and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and demanded that the government  send back the Pakistani envoy.
A day after the Government announced cancellation of the foreign secretary level talks with Islamabad, AICC  spokesperson Anand Sharma demanded that Pakistan envoy Abdul Basit be sent back over meeting with Geelani.    “Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit must be sent back,” Mr Sharma said.
On the Government’s decision to cancel the foreign secretary talks, the Congress said the government should have coherence  and consistency in dealing with Pakistan.    “The Modi government has probably played straight into the hands of delighted hardliners in Pakistan. What next with Pakistan remains unanswered,” party spokesperson Sanjay Jha said.
The statement by the Congress came even as Hurriyat leaders Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mohammad Yasin Malik decided to go ahead with their meeting with Pakistan High Commissioner in Delhi today.
