Pak ceasefire violation martyr Sudhish Kumar cremated with full state honours

SAMBHAL: Cremation of martyr Sudhish Kumar was performed here with full state honours today, even though the family had earlier refused to go for the funeral till the arrival of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

After much perusal by the authorities and an assurance that the Chief Minister would come later on, the family agreed for the cremation of the jawan, who was killed during ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army at Naushera sector of Jammu and Kashmir on October 16.

The Uttar Pradesh CM had already announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 20 lakh for the family of the martyr. The last rites were performed at the native Pansukha village, with people raising slogans against Pakistan and Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif.

A controversy had broken out when Dharampal, father of the martyr, demanded that the Chief Minister be present during the cremation, otherwise they will not perform it. Dharmpal alleged that if the Chief Minister can go to Mathura for the cremation of a martyr, then why can’t he come to Sambhal.

Due to the demand, the cremation was delayed for about six hours, but they agreed after being assured that the CM will visit their village later on.

A jawan of Rajputana rifles, Sudhish, was killed by a sharp shooter of Pak Army, when he was patrolling on the KDL post near the line of control. (AGENCIES)
