SRINAGAR: Asserting that recent infiltration attempt by militants clearly shows complicity of Pakistan in aiding and abetting militancy in Kashmir, a top Army commander on Wednesday said that soldiers, deployed along the Line of Control (LoC) will take all actions to guard the borders and allow no mischief by the neighbouring country.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 15 Corps (Chinar Corps), Lt Gen BS Raju also paid tribute to five soldiers, who were killed on Sunday in an encounter which ensued after alert troops foiled an infiltration bid from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) in Keran sector, says ‘the sacrifice they have made in the true spirit and highest tradition of Indian Army’. Five heavily armed infiltrators were also killed in the gunfight.
Taking about the development, he said ‘Operation Randori Behak’ was an operation conducted over five days during which Army was able to neutralize five militants, who had infiltrated from PoK. “I must compliment my soldiers who were able to successfully complete this operation inspite of extreme conditions,” he said.
Lt Gen Raju said this operation clearly shows complicity of Pakistan in aiding and abetting infiltrators and as a consequence, militancy in Kashmir. “This act of Pakistan is repressible as when the whole world is fighting COVID-19 and its aftermath; the neighbouring country is abetting and aiding infiltration,” he said.
“On behalf of China Corps I would like to pay tribute to these five men and their families and the sacrifice they have made in the true spirit and highest tradition of Indian Army,” he added.
The Army commander said ‘at the end, I would like to assure the countrymen that while you are busy fighting the pandemic of COVID-19, we who are deployed along the Line of Control (LoC) will take all actions to guard the borders and allow no mischief by Pakistan’.
A defence ministry spokesperson on Monday said that five heavily-armed militants and as many soldiers were killed during on Sunday in an encounter which ensued after alert troops foiled a major infiltration bid from PoK in Keran sector in the frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir.
“Four soldiers under the command of a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) from one of the most professional Para SF Units were heli-dropped near the LoC after information on the infiltrators was received,” he said, adding an intense hand to hand battle ensued and all five militants were killed.
However, he said in this battle Army lost five of its best soldiers, three on the site and two more succumbed while they were airlifted to a nearby military hospital. “The IA Special Forces squad was led by Subedar Sanjeev Kumar and included Havildar Davendra Singh, Paratrooper Bal Krishan, Paratrooper Amit Kumar and Paratrooper Chhatrapal Singh,” he said.
