Paharis pin hopes on Governor for redressal of problems

JAMMU, Jan 15: Pinning high hopes on Governor NN Vohra for redressing their problems, JKPPM in a meeting here said that Mr Vohra is the right man to serve the cause of the community as he has a vast experience with regard to dealing things in the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior Pahari leader Abdul Rehman said despite tall promises made by the successive Governments nothing has practically been done for the community, adding that Mr Vohra who has held prestigious posts in the Country, especially in Jammu and Kashmir, is the right person to fulfill our demands.
Terming Pahari community more nomadic than Gujjars, M A Sagar, provincial president of Forum said that Central Government should respect the State Legislative Assembly by responding the resolution passed by it and referred to the Centre for granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to Paharis by the house few years back.
JKPPM, Chief Executive Shahbaz Khan and spokesperson Advocate Rajinder Singh Mehta said that the Governor is well aware of the problems sufferings of the Pahari community who have been discriminated since last 29 years, adding that the community is expecting the end to their miseries under the Governor’s rule at an earliest.
Appealing the Governor to fulfill the genuine demands of more than 27 lakh Paharis, Shahbaz Khan said that the State Assembly and Cabinet have passed the bill for ST and State Cabinet has passed resolution for granting 5 percent and 2 percent reservation to Paharis and OBC’s respectively.
Prominent among others who spoke in the meeting  included Advocate Shahid Kamlak, Advocate Aijaz Ahmed, Advocate Ab Qadar Khan, Mohd Sayeed Mughal, Rajive Sharma, Rajinder Kumar, Vinod Kumar, Danish Mughal, Advocate Ab Wahid Khan, Mehmood Khan, Z A Qazi and Jawaid Mughal.
