Man stabbed in Kathua

KATHUA, June 8: One person was stabbed by some unknown persons on College Road here last night.
Reports said 48-year-old Jitender Singh alias Babbu, son of Amar Singh, resident of Ward No. 10, Kathua after taking dinner was walking along the college road. Some unidentified persons taking advantage of darkness inflicted stab wounds on his person and escaped. Babbu raised alarm and then fell down on the ground.
The people rushed to the spot and shifted him to district hospital, Kathua. The doctors provided him treatment and further referred him to GMC hospital, Jammu.
The police registered a case and started investigation. His condition was said to be stable now.

DB directs Comm Secy GAD to file status report or appear in person

PIL seeking prosecution of Sr IAS, KAS officers in corruption cases

JAMMU, June 8: In the much publicized Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking directions to the Commissioner of Vigilance to file charge-sheets against the high-profile accused in the corruption cases, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice J P Singh and Justice Hasnain Massodi issued fresh directions to the Commissioner Secretary to General Administration Department to file status report by the next date failing which he will have to appear in person.
The Division Bench looking into the public interest involved in the matter directed the Registry to list the PIL on June 15, 2012.
The PIL has been filed by two social activists namely Sheikh Mohd Shafi, son of former MP Sheikh Abdul Rehman and Prof SK Bhalla seeking direction to the State Vigilance Organization to file charge-sheets against the high-profile accused in the designated Anticorruption Courts in FIR No 21/2006 VOJ (illegal appointments in local bodies), FIR No 22/2009 VOJ (against Babu Ram, then CDPO Doda), FIR No 18/2005 VOK (rural electrification scam), FIR No 8/2009 VOK (infamous Gulmarg land scam) and FIR No 17/2010 VOK (against Ghulam Hassan Wani, Joint Registrar Cooperative Kashmir).
Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed appearing for the PIL informed the Bench that pursuant to the directions of the Court dated May 17, 2012 the Vigilance Organization has filed the status report in which it has been submitted that sanction was awaited in these cases.
He further submitted that in FIR No 29/2003 the GAD received the matter on August 19, 2004, in FIR No 21/2006 it received the file on September 24, 2007, in FIR No 22/2009 the Department received the file on August 16, 2011, in FIR No 18/2005 GAD received the file on January 15, 2008, in FIR No 8/2009 GAD received the file on December 22, 2009 and in FIR No 17/2010 VOK the file was received in the GAD on December 26, 2011.
He further submitted that in view of the deemed sanction for prosecution as per the law laid down by the Supreme Court in case titled Dr Subramanian Swamy Vs Dr Manmohan Singh and another decided on January 31, 2012, Commissioner of Vigilance should be directed to file the charge-sheets in the Anticorruption Courts.
Additional Advocate General Gagan Basotra, however, sought four weeks time for filling the status report on behalf of GAD but his submission was rejected by the Division Bench and looking into the public interest involved, Division Bench directed Commis sioner/Secre- tary GAD to file status report by next date failing which he will have to appear in person.

Power shut down

JAMMU, June 8: In order to carry out branch cutting and allied works, the power supply to the R. S. Pura town, Chakori, Satryian, Chowala, Dablehar and adjoining areas fed from 33 KV R. S. Pura feeder emanating from 132/33 KV Grid Station Miran Sahib will remain affected on June 10, 2012 from 7 am to 11 am.
Meanwhile, in order to carry out the replacement of oil of 11 KV OCB and other allied works at 33/11 KV R/Stn. Railway Station & JDA Complex, the power supply to Vikram Chowk, Bahu Plaza, Gandhi Nagar, Green Belt, Gole Market, Apsra Road, Part of Trikuta Nagar, Rampura, University, PHE Installations and adjoining areas fed from 33 KV G-2 feeder emanating from 220/132/33 KV Grid Station Gladni will remain affected on June 10, 2012 (Sunday) from 6 a.m. to 12 noon.
In order to carry out the stringing work of 33 KV B.D. Bari Line, the power supply to the areas being fed from R/Stn. Ratuchak i.e Birpur and Datta Talab and Industries fed from 33/11 KV BB-II and R/Stn. Kartholi will remain affected on June 10, 2012 (Sunday) from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m.

JAMMU, June 8: Continuing its campaign against acute scarcity of drinking water and unprecedented power crises in Jammu city, activists of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today organized a massive protest demonstration at Gandhi Nagar area. The demonstration was held under the leadership of R K Bali district president of the party. The demonstration started from the party office and passed through different areas of Gandhi Nagar. Slogan shouting PDP activists also disrupted traffic on National Highway for quite some time.
PDP leaders while addressing the workers said that party has launched State -wide campaign against poor supply of drinking water and electricity besides price-rise as the Centre and State Governments have miserably failed to ensure regular and adequate supply of essential commodities besides checking the sky rocketing prices. They said that a common citizen was finding it very difficult to survive but the Government was least concerned. They said that in these days when the temperature has already crossed 45 degrees, the long power cuts and inadequate supply of drinking water has resulted into resentment among the people as a result of which they are forced to come on roads.
They accused the coalition Government of its total failure on all fronts saying that it is the ineptness of the Omar Abdullah led Government that people miseries are increasing day by day. They said though Government was supposed to take stock of the situation arising due to power and water crisis in Jammu region in these hot Summer days the Ministers are enjoying the cool breeze in Valley leaving the people in this hot region in lurch.
They said the PDP being a responsible Party can’t tolerate the sufferings of people whether in Kashmir Valley or Jammu region and would launch a protest in a democratic way to warn the Government of its wrong doings as there is a public outcry against power and water crisis in the entire State.

Estate employees frame Coordination Committee

JAMMU, June 8: The two main factions of employees bodies/ unions in the Estates department today decided to get united and constituted All J&K Estates Employees Coordination Committee.
Announcing this in a joint press conference, leaders of both the unions, Prem Singh Bawa and Yash Paul Sharma, said that sinking all the differences, both the unions in the interest of employees have decided to work collectively and in effective manner to fight for the cause of the employees. Both the leaders declared that formation of 20-member Coordination Committee will end factionalism in the Estates department.
They also extended gratitude to the employees for forging unity among two unions and assured them that now onwards, they will work collectively for the cause of the employees. They said reorganization of the department is the top most demand of the employees besides regularization of daily wagers, Safai Karamcharis and contractual and adhoc workers. They also demanded conduct of DPC, two and half days salary for the Estates staff and the time bound promotions. They strongly demanded that office of Deputy Director Estates be shifted from Manda Hills to some other suitable location in the city.

SRINAGAR, June 8 : Welcoming the children from 33 States and Union Territories of the country participating in the National Camp here, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today told them to carry the message of love and affection from this place to the boys and girls of their States.
“Tell them about the hospitality, natural beauty and cultural richness of Jammu and Kashmir and make them visit this place alongwith you again and again”, he told the young boys and girls while interacting with them at the camp at Tagore Hall here this morning.
The camp has been organized by the Indian Council of Children Welfare, New Delhi in collaboration with State Government Departments. More than 250 boys and girls from 33 States and Union Territories are participating in the National Camp.
Terming children future of the country, the Chief Minister said that their proper grooming, inculcating the spirit of public service, self-help and confidence along with academic excellence is imperative to cultivate capable human resource to lead the country ably. He said that holding of such camps provide young boys and girls opportunity to know about the cultural diversity, educational status, geography, historical background, economic activities, occupation of people and other related subjects.
While appreciating the organizes of the National Camp. Omar said that holding of such camps here be made a regular feature. He also appreciated the participation of J&K boys and girls in the camp and the interaction of participants with the students of various institutions of the State.
On the request of children for Gandola ride at Gulmarg, the Chief Minister said that Jammu and Kashmir is known for its hospitality world over. “You are not only our guests but our children, as such my office will arrange and bear the expenditure on your Gulmarg visit and Gandola ride”, he told the children amid thunderous applause.
On the occasion, Chairperson of Indian Council of Children Welfare, Gita Sidharath presented the resume of the aims and objectives of the Council. She said that the concept of organizing ‘The Learn to Live Together Camps’ was conceived by the Council’s exposure to the Children’s International Summer Village (CISV) Camps.
She said ‘Learn to Live Together Camps’ have been held at different venues varying from cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Hydrabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Jaipur, Jarkhand, etc. She said these camps provide opportunity to children to learn and broaden their mental horizon. These also make them to understand different cultures and societies. These also provide them opportunity to make friends and become aware of basic likenesses and grow to appreciate differences.

3rd Mughal Road Rally from June 29 Jora reviews arrangements

SRINAGAR, June 8: Arrangements for 3rd Mughal Road Rally 2012 were reviewed at a meeting chaired by the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora, here today.
The rally, commencing from June 29 to July 2, 2012 is being sponsored and co-organized by Tourism Department and Himalayan Motorsports, Shimla jointly would be flagged off from SKICC, Srinagar followed by prize distribution on the concluding day of the event.
Minister of State for Tourism and Home, Nasir Aslam Wani, Commissioner Secretary Tourism and Culture, Attul Duloo, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Director Information, IGP, Kashmir, IGP Traffic, Director Health Services, Managing Director, JKTDC, Directors of Tourism Kashmir and Jammu, Chief Engineer, Mughal Road Project, representatives from BEACON, SAMPARK, President Himalayan Motorsports, Shimla, Ajit Parmar besides officers from various department were present on the occasion.
Highlighting the importance of Mughal road and these rallies, Jora underlined need for adequate publicity of the event to ensure its success. He said the road got heritage status and would go a long way in promoting tourism sector in the State.
Emphasizing for close inter departmental coordination, the Minister asked the officers of line departments to take proper care of their areas so that participants do not face any inconvenience during rally.
Giving the details of the event, Parmar said that there would be two stages of the rally, Transport stage and Competitive Stage. The transport stage will start at Srinagar and pass through Pampore-Pulwama-Shopian and Dobjan while the competitive stage would start at Dubjan and pass through Pir ki Gali and culminate at Bufliaz,he added.
The meeting was informed that helicopters facilities would be kept ready on selective places, apart from the ambulances of Health Department, to meet any exigency during the event.
The representatives of BEACON and SAMPARK were asked to clear in advance while army was asked to regulate the convoy in accordance with the schedule of the event and stop the moment of convoy on the Competitive Stages on rally days, however, on Transport Stage of the event civilian and army traffic moment would be allowed to ply normally. The Chief Engineer Mughal road was asked to suspend the ongoing work on the road during event days.
It was given out that the run would have two separate rallies, the extreme, a fast paced event with professional drivers and the Enduro, a slower event both aimed to promote tourism through motoring. The extreme event will return from Bafliaz while Enduro will proceed to Jammu after crossing Mughal road at Bafliaz.
The meeting also discussed the security measures needed to be taken on the days of rally and it was told that for safety of the participants, the organizers will use licensed VHF Radio sets to remain informed about the moment of the vehicles.
Rally on Jammu-Reasi-Gool-Ramban-Batote-Doda-Pull-Kishtwar-Sinthan Pass-Daksum-Anantnag-Srinagar besides Srinagar-Pulwama-Shopian-Dubjan-Pir-ki-Gali-Bafliaz-Thanamandi-Rajouri-Akhnoor- Jammu would be the part of event.

JAMMU, June 8: Jammu Cricket Club (JCC) thrashed Samba XI by a big margin of 130 runs in the ongoing 3rd Prof Pran Nath Malhotra Memorial One-Day Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Jammu wing of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here.
Earlier, batting first, JCC riding on a splendid batting display by Jasvinder Singh and Vivek Singh scored 205 runs in 39.4 overs. Jasvinder made 75 runs off 91 balls, which included 6 boundaries, while Vivek Singh contributed 46 runs to the total with the help of 4 boundaries. Skipper Sandeep Singh and Sidharth Magotra chipped in valuable 29 and 15 runs respectively. Salim was wrecker-in-chief for Samba Club, who scalped 5 important wickets by conceding 44 runs in his 10 overs, while Arjun and Siddant Singh claimed 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
Samba XI, in reply bundled out for a meagre total of 75 runs in 27 overs, thus lost the match by a huge margin of 130 runs. Sunny Gupta and Naginder contributed 21 and 11 runs to the total respectively. For JCC, speedsters Rahil Singh and Vishwajeet Singh claimed 3 wickets each, while Deepak Dogra and Manjeet Singh bagged 2 wickets each.

JAMMU, June 8: Saarthak Jain and Shrawan Bagati duo held their nerves after losing the first set to come back strongly and clinched a (3-1) victory over Aman Pandoh and Siddarth Gupte pair in the summit clash by 3-6, 6-4 and 10-6 (super tie-break) in the ongoing Jammu District Gulrez Memorial Tennis Tournament at Police Lines Gulshan ground, here.
Meanwhile, in U-18 singles final, Saarthak Jain toppled Aman Pandoh by two sets to one (2-1) with the scores of 6-3, 5-7 and 10-6 via super tie-break.
Earlier, in Under-14 boys singles final, Chakshu Mahajan prevailed upon Arunav Arora in the finals by two sets to nil (2-0) 6-1, 7-5.
In Under-12 boys final, Aryaman Wazir trounced Saksham Manhotra by 6-4, 5-7 and 10-6 via super tie-break to lift the title.

DODA, June 8: Defeating formidable Zakir Cricket Club by 6 wickets, Gujarat Cricket Club entered the quarterfinals of the ongoing All India 8th Gufran Memorial Cricket Tournament, being organized by Young Star Cricket Club Doda at Sports Stadium, here.
Put into bat, Zakir Club scored 149 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Abid Nabi scored fabulous 85 runs, while Aamir contributed 12 runs to the total. For Gujarat Club, Junaid and Ghulam Belim shared 2 wickets each.
Gujarat Club chased the target in 16.4 overs by losing 4 wickets, thus won the match by 6 wickets. Imran played a power-packed innings of 45 runs in 22 balls which included 2 sixes and 2 fours, while Aziz contributed 39 runs to the total. Abid Nabi took 2 wickets, while Salman claimed one. Imran was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant display.
Farooq Ahmed Khan, District Development Commissioner, Doda, was the chief guest on the valedictory function and presented man of the match award on the occasion.
