JAMMU, Mar 5: Several Opposition MLAs today put the Government in the dock over inordinate delay in the execution of road projects under Prime Minister’s Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGY) and demanded stern action against the delinquent officers. “It is pity that even one or two kilometer long roads have not been completed during the past four years”, Kathua MLA, Charanjit Singh said while pointing towards the written reply given by the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ali Mohd Sagar on behalf of the Minister Incharge Public Works Department, in response to his question.

JAMMU, Mar 5: Accusing the State Government of being non-serious towards the vital power sector, main Opposition-People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today grilled Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora, who was replying to the queries on behalf of Minister Incharge Power, before staging walk-out. The grilling of Tourism Minister was started when he failed to give ‘satisfactory’ reply to the specific question of PDP MLA and former Minister, Abdul Gaffar Sofi during the Question Hour in the Lower House. “The Minister has talked about the entire country and the Central sector scheme–Re-structured Accelerated Power Development Reforms Programme but he could not give satisfactory reply to my very specific question about the improvement and upgradation of the HT/ LT network and construction of new sub-stations in Homeshali Bugh Constituency”, Mr Sofi remarked.

JAMMU, Mar 5: Pandemonium gripped the Legislative Assembly during Zero Hour today with People’s Democratic Party (PDP) MLAs storming to the Well of the House for not being allowed to raise the issues concerning the common masses and members of other Opposition parties holding protest on different issues before staging walk-out. There was also a verbal spat between Speaker and PDP MLA Nizamuddin Bhat. As soon as Zero Hour began, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Nagrota, Jugal Kishore raised the issue of Custodian Department property and demanded that the occupants of the property must be given ownership rights.

JAMMU, Mar 5: The Lower House of the State Legislature today witnessed clashes between arch political rivals-National Conference and People’s Democratic Party with both the parties trying to project themselves as sympathizers of Srinagar district. After heated arguments and clashes, all the PDP MLAs including former Deputy Chief Minister, Muzaffar Hussain Baig staged walk-out after accusing the Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs and MLA from Khanyar, Ali Mohd Sagar of misleading the House. “Notwithstanding the long reply given by the Government, the fact is that the major initiatives, which were taken during the tenure of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for the development of Srinagar have not been carried forward by the present regime”, said PDP MLA, Abdul Rehman Veeri, who was seeking reply from the Government to the question of Mehbooba Mufti in her absence..

JAMMU, Mar 5: Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather today proposed exemption of various items including Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from Valued Added Tax (VAT) and proposed tax extension on various other items like flour, paddy and fertilizers etc while going ahead with tax concessions to industry, hotels and tourism sectors for one more financial year (FY) i.e. up to March 31, 2013. Presenting general budget for financial year of 2012-13, which would come into force from April 1 this year when approved by both Houses of Legislature, Mr Rather announced increase in VAT on products of tobacco consumption from 25 per cent to 30 per cent, Sales Tax tag on liquor from 25 per cent to 30 per cent and brought security and placement services, pandal and shamiana services and annual maintenance contracts under the ambit of tax net. He proposed increase in the existing rate of toll. The Finance Minister proposed increase in the honorarium of Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers from ` 1500 per month to uniform level of ` 3000 per month and hiked remuneration of Nambardars and Chowkidars from ` 501 and 500 per month to ` 751 and ` 700 per month respectively.

In principle, we accept that some progress is being made but when it comes to practice even the teachers of ahimsa have been seen becoming violent.
That is why, to train individuals a programme has been chalked out. All persons who believe in non-violence should first accept training in ahimsa and also convince others to undergo similar training. If we can apply these four points in our life then lot of problems will automatically get resolved.
The head of the family is not as tolerant and balanced today as he should be. This is the first aberration. Respected Acharya Srimad Vallabh Suriji and Acharya Srimad Inderddin Suriji had given a formula concerning the capability of, and the affection for, the head of the family or society. If these two things were there, the family would not disintegrate. The head of the family should possess a sense of equality. His attitude should be inspired by equality. If there are four sons, his treatment should be the same for all. He should also possess competence andtolerance as well. A family is constituted of people with different likings and different dispositions. All these should be accommodated as far as possible. Affection and feeling ofaffinity towards all should prevail. This is essential for keeping the family united.
A problem of the present times is that many temptations have emerged and many wrong notions have developed. Among them, the foremost is the false notion of freedom. Among four brothers, three may be weak. In the past, the one strong brother provided support to the others. Today the thinking is different. He wonders why he should take on all the burden?
He wants to make rapid progress and to go ahead on his own This selfish mentality has also broken families. Another thought of the present times that is responsible for the fragmentation of the family is that everybody wants to live independently.
Nobody wants to depend on or follow anybody. All these are the factors leading to the conditions of disintegration of the family.
ADELAIDE, Mar 5: Just a step away from clinching the title, Australia will be hoping to seal the issue tomorrow itself when they take on a spirited Sri Lanka in the second match of the best-of-three finals of the cricket tri-series here.
Australia took a giant step towards winning Commonwealth Bank trophy when they defeated Sri Lanka by 15 runs in the high-scoring and thrilling first final of the tri-series at Brisbane yesterday.
And the hosts would be keen to keep the momentum going and wrap up the series tomorrow itself, but for that too happen the home team would want a more disciplined performance from its bowlers who cut a sorry figure yesterday against the Sri Lankan lower-middle order and tail-enders.
After posting 321 for six, largely built around David Warner’s career-best 163, the hosts got a scare with Nuwan Kulasekara (73) coming up with a blistering counter attacking innings and Sri Lankan tailenders producing some lusty hits before they fell short by 15 runs.
Even though they are 1-0 up in the three-game final, Australia will need to do some soul searching ahead of tomorrow’s match with skipper Michael Clarke too admitting that his bowlers continued to struggle in powerplay and death overs.
“Powerplay and death overs (bowling) have been an issue with us throughout. They (bowlers) are showing enough variations in the nets. But under pressure they are not able to execute it. We have to be better than that for we are the number one ranked team of the world,” a peeved Clarke had said after yesterday’s match. (PTI)
Patnitop March 5: Three Day Snow Festival organized by J&K Tourism Department in collaboration with Patnitop Development Authority (PDA) concluded at Patnitop.
On the occasion Superintendent of Police, Ramban, Anil Magotra was the chief guest and he distributed prizes among the winners.
During the 3-day event various winter sports activities and cultural programmes depicting traditional folk culture of the state were organized in the main meadow of Patnitop. The sports activities and cultural items were so forceful that compelled everybody present on the occasion to give repeated cheers.
The skiing completion in which participants within and outside the different parts of the state attracts a large crowd on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive Officer, PDA, Dr. Raman Kesar said that the objective to organize snow festival at picturesque Patnitop was aimed at to popularize the famous tourist destination across the country and to boost tourism industry in the region.
He said that sincere efforts would be put in place to attract domestic and foreign tourist to this health resort so that they can feel the natural charm of the spot.
