Four injured in road accidents

JAMMU, Jan 10: Four persons were injured in road accidents at different locations.
As per reports, Sandeep son of Gopal and Vicky son of Ramesh Lal, both residents of Kalwal, Bishnah were injured, when the motorcycle they were riding on slipped near Patli Morh, falling under the jurisdiction of Bari Brahmana police station.
They were rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where their condition was stated to be out of danger, when last reports came in.
Meanwhile, Dr Sanjeev Kapoor, son of Sudershan Kapoor of Channi Himmat was injured when the car he was driving collided with another car at Channi highway crossing.
He was shifted to GMC Hospital, where his condition was stated to be stable, when last reports poured in.
In another incident, Som Nath, son of late Faqir Chand of Doda received injuries due to fall from bus near Tikri in district Udhampur.
He was rushed to GMC Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment, when last reports came in.
Cases have been registered at concerned police stations and investigation started.

3 narcotic smugglers arrested

SRINAGAR, Jan 10: Police arrested three narcotic smugglers including a woman and recovered some two- kilograms of charas from their possession in a residential house at Dobi Mohalla, Khrew in South Kashmir’s Pulwama.
Amit Sharma, DySP and Incharge Station House Officer (SHO) Pampore said that a police checking party stopped a Maruti Van and after through search some 30 grams of Charas was recovered from its driver identified as Mohammad Altaf of Wuyan. And after the interrogation Altaf confessed that he had brought it (Charas) from one Mohammad Lateef Shah of Dobi Mohalla, Khrew.
“A police party raided the house of Lateef and recovered some two-kilograms of Charas from their house,” Sharma said.
He said a case in FIR No 07 of 2014 under Section 8/20 of NDPS Act was registered at police station Pampore and investigations are going on.
IIMC Jammu students top at all India level in English Journalism course

JAMMU, Jan 10: The students of 2nd batch of Jammu Centre in English Journalism have brought laurels to centre of PG Diploma Courses (2013-2014) by bagging first three positions in the course offered by Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), an autonomous institution of Ministry of I&B, Government of India was announced today.
The three students namely, Avantika Gupta, Kritika Joshi and Sumedha Sharma have secured 1st , 2nd and 4th position respectively among all the six centres of IIMC across the country. Out of 12 students of Jammu centre appeared in the exams, eight have secured 1st division. One of the students of 1st batch, namely, SugamSinghal was declared the overall topper among all the six centres of IIMC across the country during session 2012-13.
While the achievement is due to hard labour put in by students and faculty, the contribution made by the State Government in providing accommodation for institution and hostel in the heart of the city, and IIMC HQrs. for all other infrastructure / facilities like conveyance, equipment, faculty beside overall guidance has also been an added factor.

Dogra Front, Sena activists stage protest

JAMMU, Jan 10: Dogra Front and Shiv Sena activists held protest demonstration here today against beheading video of soldier Hemraj launched by Pakistan on the first death anniversary of the Indian soldier.
Sena leader, Ashok Gupta was leading the protest. The activists assembled at Janipur and then took out a protest march towards old city which culminated at Parade ground. The agitating activists also burnt the effigy of Pakistan. Mr Gupta demanded similar reply to the Pakistan which is indulging in ceasefire violations repeatedly. He alleged that Pakistan Army and its Government were responsible for the provocative actions. They should be taught lesson.
Infosys shares gain over 2% post Q3 results
MUMBAI, Jan 10: Shares of Infosys today rose by over 2 per cent after the IT major raised its revenue growth forecast for the financial year ending March 31, 2014.
After making a positive opening, the stock further gained 2.28 per cent to Rs 3,529.90 on the BSE.
On the NSE, the scrip went up by 2.26 per cent to Rs 3,529. The bellwether stock was the top gainer among the bluechips on both the Sensex as well as Nifty during the early trade.
“Infosys numbers came in-line with expectations. Revenue guidance is good, but the stock price seems to have factored in this,” said Kishor Ostwal, CMD, CNI Research.
According to Paras Bothra, Research Head, Ashika Stock Brokers: “Results are reasonably okay. The key take away is that guidance has been increased.”
The country’s second-largest software services firm, Infosys, today reported a 21.4 per cent increase in net profit to Rs 2,875 crore in the third quarter ended December 31.
Profit was Rs 2,369 crore in the same period a year earlier.
Revenue rose 25 per cent to Rs 13,026 crore from Rs 10,424 crore, Infosys said in a BSE filing.
The company has also raised its revenue growth forecast to 24.4-24.9 per cent for the financial year ending March 31, 2014, from 21-22 per cent estimated earlier.
Infosys earnings had a positive rub-off on other IT stocks, with the BSE IT index rising 1.51 per cent against a 0.07 per cent rise in broader benchmark Sensex. (AGENCIES)
SEECC extends support to JCC’s ‘Mashal rally’ prog

JAMMU, Jan 10: All J&K School Education Employees Co-ordination Committee held a meeting, which was chaired by chairman, J&K Teachers Forum and senior leader, Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) Abdul Qayoom Wani.
During the meeting, the committee extended full support to the “Mashal rally” programme on January 15 by JCC.
The members expressed anguish over non-fulfillment of the promise made by the Government.
Wani in his speech urged the Government not to test the patience of the employees as they will not be cowed down by their repressive measures.
“It would be in the larger interest of State if the issues of employees as discussed in the agreement reached between JCC and Government are met at the earliest”, he added.

Punchok Tashi calls on Div Com, discusses demands

KARGIL, Jan 10: Punchok Tashi nominated Councilor and former Executive Councilor in LAHDC Kargil today called on Shalinder Kumar, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir at Srinagar and sought his intervention in the various issues pertaining to the people of Zanskar valley.
Punchok Tashi requested Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir to sanction compensation to the families whose properties have been damaged by the vandalism of IRP Police posted to Zanskar in the month of September 2013, besides providing of MI-17 helicopter service to ferry stranded passenger of Zanskar from Leh to Padum and sending teams of veterinary Doctors to Zanskar to control the epidemic disease of foot and mouth among the animals in Zanskar were also requested.
Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir assured him that the compensation will be made available within shortest possible time and on improvement of weather helicopter service will also be operated between Leh to Padum Zanskar.
He gave directives to Director Animal Husbandary to take measure for control the disease of foot and mouth among the animals in Zanskar.
