JAMMU, Jan 14: Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie has been nominated as working provincial president (Jammu) of the All Jammu and Kashmir Patwar Association.
His nomination was made by Afaq Shopyani, the newly elected State president of the Association.
Mushtaq is also district president of Jammu and in addition to his own responsibilities, he will also act as working provincial president of the Association.

3 injured as tractor turns turtle

REASI, Jan 14: Three persons were critically injured when a tractor carrying them, turned turtle and the trio came under its trolley near Kanha Chowk at Lerh in Pouni, here today.
It took more than an hour to rescue the injured who were partially buried under the tractor and bleeding profusely. After hectic efforts, the trio was evacuated after lifting the tractor with the help of a JCB.
The injured, identified as Mandeep Singh son of Darshan Singh of Lerh, Mushtaq Mohd son of Dil Mohd of Lerh and Raj Kumar son of Gian Chand of Tali Morh, were shifted to district hospital where doctors referred them to GMC hospital Jammu in view of their critical condition.
Mushtaq Mohd was driving the tractor while the two others were sitting on it.
NYC volunteers protest for regularization

JAMMU, Jan 14: Demanding regularization, National Youth Corps (NYC) volunteers held a protest demonstration here today.
Carrying placards and banners, they assembled in front of the Press Club and raised slogans against the Government for not redressing their demand of regularization.
The protest was also addressed by some leaders of the All J&K National Youth Corps (NYC) Association, who alleged that the Government was not serious about the future of 8000 youth of the State.
These NYCs were engaged with different Government departments and rendered 2 years service while the Government is now implementing use and throw policy on these volunteers, they said and demanded regularization of their services.
The protesters also threatened to further intensify their struggle if the Government does not regularize them.
Shiv Ji Mandir Committee elects office bearers

JAMMU, Jan 14: Shiv Ji Mandir Committee, Pandoka Colony, Paloura in a meeting held in premises of Mandir, elected its new office bearers, here today.
While electing office bearers, the meeting also paid tributes to former president of the Committee, Janak Singh Manhas for his contribution in development of the Mandir.
Jai Paul was unanimously elected president, while Ashok Kaul was elected secretary and Sukhdev Singh as vice president.
Harbans Singh was elected as general secretary, while HS Katal was named as cashier. Balwan Chib, Joginder Raj Dubey and Kuldeep Singh Chib were elected as accountant, publicity secretary and assistant secretary respectively, while Bal Krishan Bhagat, Ranjeet Singh Chib and Naseem Singh were named members of the committee.
The elected office bearers resolved to work for the development of the temple and make it eco friendly.
CPPWU criticizes GVK management for befooling people

KISHTWAR, Jan 14: Chinar Power Project Workers’ Union (CPPWU) has criticized the management of M/s GVK Power Development for befooling the disturbed and affected people of Rattle HE Project, Drabshalla by making false promises.
Addressing a meeting of the Union, which was organized to discuss various issues related to the unemployment and development, its chairman, Joginder Bhandari, said that the Director, M/s GVK Power Development Hyderabad, during his recent visit to Kishtwar committed with the Rattle HE Project disturbed people that the organisation will accommodate Rs 1000 to each ration card holder besides, feed for animals and two 10 bedded hospitals, but nothing is visible till now.
Bhandari urged upon the management of GVK to provide permanent employment to one member of each family whose land has come in the said project and fix their salaries at par with the NHPC employees.
Pedestrian hit by bus

UDHAMPUR, Jan 14: A pedestrian was seriously injured when a rashly driven bus hit him on the National Highway near Nandni.
The injured, identified as Mohd Latif, son of Mir Mohd of Tali Bari Kud, was rushed to District Hospital Udhampur where doctors referred him to GMC Hospital Jammu for advanced treatment.
Thief held with stolen motorcycle

JAMMU, Jan 14: Jhajjar Kotli police today solved a theft case with the recovery of a stolen motorcycle and arrest of the accused.
A police spokesman said that, a motorcycle bearing registration JK02L-8519 was stolen last week from Jhajjar Kotli police station jurisdiction.
The owner of the vehicle lodged a complaint with police station Jhajjar Kotli, on which FIR number 8/14 was registered.
On specific inputs, police party from Jhajjar Kotli police station headed by SHO OP Chib under the supervision of SDPO Khaliq Choudhary recovered the vehicle and arrested the thief, who has been identified as Ramzan Mohammad, son of Nazir Ahmed of Tarah.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi celebrated with religious fervor across Valley

Srinagar, Jan 14: Eid Milad-un-Nabi was celebrated with religious fervour across Kashmir valley today with special prayers held at different shrines and Masjids of the valley, especially at Hazratbal Shrine.
Thousands of devotees thronged on the special occasion of birthday of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to Hazratbal Shrine which houses the relics of the last prophet of Islam.
As part of the celebration special prayers were offered after afternoon congregational prayers at Hazratbal shrine and devotees were eagerly waiting to have the glimpse of holy relics.
The clerics addressed gathering and threw light on the life of Holy Prophet (SAW) and His teachings.
Special congregational prayers and processions were held at Janab Sahab Soura, Asar-i-Sharif Shahri Kalashpora, Lal Bazar, Khanqah-i-Maula, Ziarat Hazrat Dastgeer Sahib (RA), Syed Yaqoob Sahab (RA) Sonwar, Khawaja Naqshband Sahab (RA) and Ziarat Makhdoom Sahib (RA).
Reports said special prayers were also offered at Masjids and shrines in Anantnag mainly at Jamia Masjid Reshi Sahab, Khiram Sirhama, Kaba Marg, Dooru and Seer Hamdan.
On the occasion, buildings and shrines in the city were decorated with colourful buntings, banners and fancy lights.
Despite biting cold, night long prayers were held at different shrines.
Scores of volunteer organizations were seen busy in managing the public affairs at different shrines.
The Divisional Administration had made special transport facilities from all the routes leading to different shrines especially Hazratbal shrine.
Apart from shrines, special ‘Naatia Mushairas’ and quiz programmes on Seerat-e-Mustafa (SAW) were held at different places.
Shabir pays surprise visit to SDH Akhnoor; fines BMO, others

JAMMU, Jan 14: Minister of State for Health, Shabir Ahmad Khan today ordered imposition of fine of Rs. 1000 on Block Medical Officer Sub-District Hospital, Akhnoor, for dereliction of duties. He also ordered imposition of fine of Rs. 500 each on X-Ray Technician and Laboratory Assistant for negligence in their duties in the hospital.
The Minister this morning paid surprise inspection to the hospital and found that some officials had not attended to their duties as per the duty roster. He, while checking the attendance register of the staff, found some official absent from their duties.
Taking serious note, the Minister ordered Director Health Services Jammu to impose fine for creating mismanagement, indiscipline in the hospital and showing carelessness in duty. He also ordered concerned higher ups to initiate an inquiry against the absentee officials for stern action under rules. . He also directed concerned authorities to take immediate steps for ensuring proper management in the hospital to avoid inconveniences to the patients.
The Minister went round each section of the hospital, enquired about the welfare of the patients besides he also took stock of the medicare facilities provided to the patients. He gave direction to the concerned for further improvement in the sanitation facilities in and around the hospital besides ensuring hassle free treatment facilities to the patients. He also issued strict orders for providing free treatment facilities to the expecting mothers and infants besides to and fro transport facilities to them under JSSY.
The Minister emphasized the need for effective implementation of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) flagship programme to ensure universalization of health services in rural areas. He asked the doctors and paramedics to discharge their duties carefully and serve the patients with a missionary zeal.
Bhalla takes stock of development works

JAMMU, Jan 14: Minister for Horticulture, Housing and Culture Raman Bhalla today said that peace is vital for making Jammu and Kashmir a progressive and prosperous State, adding that people’s cooperation is imperative for the purpose.
This was stated by the Minister while addressing a public grievances redressal camp after assessing development related issues of the inhabitants of Pamposh Colony in Channi Rama, here today.
Mr. Bhalla said Government was fully aware of people’s problems and is making all out effort to mitigate these on priority.
Listing the measures taken by the Government in improving the living standard of the inhabitants of the locality, the Minister said Government has dedicated Rs. 38 lakh multipurpose community hall to the residents of Pamposh Colony, Channi Rama, Chinar Colony, Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Bilal Colony, Shanker Colony, Rajput Mohalla and its adjoining areas for arranging their social as well as religious functions on minimum fee.
Mr. Bhalla called upon the inhabitants to protect the public property in their respective localities for their own interest. The Minister stressed upon the officers to bring in more accountability and transparency in utilization of funds available under various Centrally and State sponsored schemes for better infrastructural development of the State.
Responding to the locals demand, the Minister informed the inhabitants that Government has formulated a project costing Rs. Rs. 68 crore for construction of Barsati nallah from Jodhamal School to Gangyal, adding that the project would be started by ERA after completing the tendering formalities.
Regarding upgradation of lanes and drains in the locality, Mr. Bhalla asked the JMC officers to prepare estimates and submit the same for funding so that the works could be started for the convenience of general people.
