Roop Nagar residents demand regular water supply

JAMMU, June 2:  A deputation of resident from Roop Nagar Enclave, Durga Nagar, Khatri Mohalla met Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control and discussed irregular supply of drinking water of their area.
The deputation was led by Kasturi Lal Gupta, president, Jammu Welfare Organisation. The Minister issued directions to the concerned staff for immediate action and report in the matter within two days, failing which stern action shall be taken against the erring staff.
Y S Jamwal, Chander Uppal, R K Wali, Ashok Kapoor, B S Guleria, Roshan Lal, G L Koul, Pushkar Nath Tikku, Satish Ganju, Vinod Malhotra, Vijay Sharma were the part of the deputation.

Work on Escape Tunnel completes

UDHAMPUR, June 2: The work on Escape Tunnel of India’s longest Chenani-Nashri road tunnel completed today with the execution of “Connecting Blast” around 5.30 pm this evening amidst thunderous applause and moments of joy.
This blast took place in presence of senior most officers of the district administration and management of the Leighton India Ltd, who had arrived here from Australia.
DIG Doda-Ramban Range Ashkoor Wani pressed the button for connecting blast in presence of Project Director IL&FS, John Denis, Sr Program Director J S Rathore, MD IL&FS, Senior Consultant IL&FS Sewa Singh Mankotia and others.
According to R P Singh, Project Director National Highway Authority of India, commissioning of Escape Tunnel will greatly help in starting work at various points simultaneously for the Main Tunnel thereby completing the entire project ahead of schedule.
This Escape Tunnel will help the Engineers to execute work simultaneously at eight different points on the Main Tunnel, thereby increasing the numbers of men and machinery involved manifolds at one particular time, he explained.
As already reported by the Excelsior, the Main tunnel is being connected with the completed parallel tunnel via 29 cross passages in which there are 8 machinery passages also. Each cross passage is at a distance of every three hundred meters. Even as schedule date of completion of this Rs 2519 crores project is May 2016, the executing agency Leighton India Ltd. is hopeful of finishing the job by December 2015.  The tunnel will reduce the road distance between Chenani and Nashri from 41 Kms to 11 Kms besides making it a fair-weather road.
Excavation of the main tunnel has been completed more than 70 percent and it will be finished by December this year following which the electrical power distribution, ventilation lighting, supervisory control and data acquisition, Fire control system, Video surveillance, traffic control, emergency call and communication works will take around one year for completion.

‘Kamaal asks ministers to change their attitude towards people’

SRINAGAR, June 2: Asking National Conference ministers to change their attitude towards the people, party additional general secretary Dr Shiekh Mustafa Kamaal today said that party president is mulling to go for a major reshuffle in the party.
“You see party appointed Ali Mohammad Sagar as its new general secretary but this is not the only change. In coming days, the party will witness a major reshuffle while new faces may be given preference over some of the leaders who occupied cabinet berth and other important posts for years together,” Kamaal told Srinagar based news agency, admitting that vacuum got created between the party leadership and the grassroot level workers during the past some years.
Kamaal said that it is an open truth that some of the party ministers cared a fig for the people who elected them in 2008 assembly elections.  “These people must change their attitude and understand that people are the ultimate authority and it is because of these people that they occupy the chair,” he said.
NC legislator said that gap between people and party leaders have widen while the party president Dr Farooq Abdullah is keen to bridge the gap between traditional party workers and leaders. “Farooq Abdullah was busy in New Delhi and he had not information what was happening on the ground in Kashmir. Farooq Sahab himself admitted that due to his busy schedule in New Delhi, he found it difficult to spare enough time for the party. The defeat in Parliament elections opened the eyes of party leadership and now everyone has agreed to change his attitude towards the people,” he added.

Madan for Regional Council to end discrimination with Jammu

JAMMU, June 2 :  Madan Lal Sharma former MP and senior Congress leader has demanded Regional Council for ending discrimination with Jammu with regard to development, infrastructure building and addressing aspirations of the people.
Mr. Sharma added that apart from Modi wave the anger of the people was also for the discontent between Government and common man.  He advised the State Government to depute their Ministers to far-flung areas and pay heed to the demand of employees and poor.  He also demanded improvement in ration and other public delivery systems.
Addressing Congress workers in Jammu East, Mr Sharma pressed for Regional Council. He said that it will bring Governance to grass root level. He said that Governments are Kashmir Centric and they do not pay heed to the  90 percent of the Jammu’s specific issues like those of refugees, border people, SCs, STs and other economically weaker sections of the society.
Referring to the ongoing debate on Article 370, Mr Sharma said that this is just to divert the attention of people from development for vote bank politics and vested interests. He said that people of Jammu should demand Regional Council to end the disparity and discrimination. He appealed the Government to create Regional Council for Jammu on the pattern of Leh and Kargil Autonomous Hill Development Council.
Mr. Sharma also called upon the party workers who did not even work in the recent election to unite once again and work for the development of Jammu Region in particular and Congress Party in general.
Yogesh Sawhney Ex-Minister also addressed the people and raised various demands related to Urban poor and sought early intervention of State Government to resolve the same. Parnav Sagotra vice president PYC also spoke on the occasion and raised the issues of urban poor.
Among others who spoke and present on the occasion includes Kanta Bhan, Pawan Dev Singh, Y.B Sharma, Rajinder Kumar, Vijay Sharma, Uttam Singh Chib  and Raman Suri.

PARIS, June 2:
Spaniard David Ferrer set up a likely quarter-final against defending champion Rafa Nadal, who beat him in last year’s final, with a 6-3 6-3 6-7(5) 6-1 victory over Kevin Anderson at the French Open  today.
The fifth seed reached his 10th straight grand slam last eight by beating the 2.03 metre (6ft 8in) South African, who towers nearly 30 cm (1 ft) above him.
Ferrer dominated baseline rallies with the 19th seed in the first two sets before they exchanged breaks in the third and Anderson worked the angles better, sending Ferrer scampering and sliding and taking the tiebreak when the 32-year-old put a forehand into the net.
Ferrer fought straight back in the fourth, unleashing a string of forehand winners to break Anderson in the second and fourth games to win the match and await the outcome of Nadal’s clash with unseeded Serb Dusan Lajovic. (Agencies)

Migrant teachers’ plea to DyCM

JAMMU, June 2: Over 100 migrant teachers, who were promoted as masters vide Order No: 928, dated 30-03-2013 have appealed the Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, who also holds the charge of Education Ministry, to adjust them in Camp Schools as per the past precedence.
In a meeting held here, these promoted teachers said that 122 teachers were promoted as master through this order, out of which 12 have been adjusted in Camp and allied institutions and 4 have been adjusted in district Leh.
They further said that over one year has passed from their promotion order, but are still unadjusted and are waiting in the wings for their suitable adjustment in migrant institutions.
The teachers said that the Government has used different yardsticks for the promotees of a specific order, helping cause of a few and leaving most of them in the lurch.
The suffering promotees have requested the concerned authorities to do the needful at an earliest to help them concentrate in their jobs.

VC KU interacts with research scholars

SRINAGAR, June 2: Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Prof A M Shah along with Dean Research, Prof K I Andrabi, newly appointed Dean Academic Affairs, Prof M Ashraf Wani and Registrar, Prof Zafar Reshi today had a detailed interaction session with research scholars from each department to seek inputs on improving quality of research in the University.
“Suggestions based on your experience in the University will help find solutions to problems being faced by research scholars” said Prof Shah terming this interaction as an important step to address growing challenges in Research. “We may not directly benefit from the initiatives we take today but our future generation would definitely reap the fruits” he said while asking scholars to come up with workable proposals and projects that would reinforce the research process at UoK.
He also assured availability of University administration at all times for resolution of their issues.
Dean Research, Prof Andrabi asked students to play a role in generating factual awareness about research and its regulations to avoid unwarranted delays in processes like registration etc. At his maiden session as Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Ashraf Wani assured students of full support on his behalf.
Registrar, Prof Reshi during the session asked students to ensure plagiarism is discouraged and genuine research undertaken. He asked scholars to explore all options of funding in order to register meaningful research.
Scholars hailed the step terming it a welcome initiative and that such meetings would help in the speedy resolution of issues faced by research scholars.
During the session, scholars spelled out issues including improvement of research labs, regular electricity, acquisition and maintenance of research equipment besides creation of a Central Research Facility for the benefit of research scholars. Authorities asked scholars to put up the points soon in order to have their speedy resolution.

Five injured as bus rolls down

UDHAMPUR June 2:  Five persons were injured when a mini bus rolled down into deep gorge at Rua Bagh in Ghordi, district Udhampur.
According to the reports, a mini bus bearing Registration  number JK02-5186 was on its way from Udhampur to Ghordi when driver lost the control over the vehicle. Police rushed to the spot and took the injured persons to Udhampur District Hospital  where doctors referred one injured to GMC Hospital, Jammu .
The  injured persons were identified as Shankar Singh (56) son of Dinanath of  Upper Barmeen, Ram Lal (52) son of Sarpanch Upper Barmeen.

Unemployed Homoeopathic Doctors’ plea to CM

JAMMU, June 2: Dr Satish Kumar Attri, General Secretary of Homoeopathic Medical Association of India (J&K State requested the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah that attention should be paid to their genuine demand of employment in Government Hospitals and while making any health policy for the people of the State in near future, their presence should not be ignored, as Homoeopathic Doctors are an important part of the AYUSH and are equally capable of serving the needs of the suffering Humanity.
Dr Satish Attri requested the Health Minister and the Chief Minister to treat AYUSH equally and give all the unemployed Homoeopathic Doctors importance in the recruitment Policies of the Govt. He further demanded that registered B-class homoeopathic practitioners must be appointed as pharmacists along with all the serving homoeopathic doctors in various hospitals. He further added that Homoeopathy as indifferent treatment can prove as a boon to the suffering society.

3 gamblers nabbed by Bishnah police

JAMMU, June 2: Bishnah police arrested three gamblers along with Rs 2,600 stake money and playing cards.
As per police sources, on specific inputs, a team from Bishnah police station headed by SHO Narinder Singh conducted a raid and arrested three gamblers from Bishnah bazaar along with Rs 2,600 stake money and playing cards.
The accused have been identified as Vicky, son of Satpal, Vicky Kumar, son of Nanak Chand and Surinder Kumar, all residents of Bishnah.
A case under 13 Gambling Act has been registered against the trio at police station Bishnah and investigation started.
