ESRM stages ‘Ghar Ki Hiffazut Zaroori Hai’

JAMMU, June 22: Ek Sath Rang Mandal (ESRM) in collaboration with BLSKS presented its 148th play ‘Ghar Ki Hiffazut Zaroori Hai’ in its Monday Theatre here today at Janipur.
The play reveals responsibility of a young man whose entire family (right from his great grandfather) has served Army. All the members of his family wish and encourage him to join Army and serve the Nation.
Unfortunately, the elder son of the family who was in Army is killed in battle field. It was a setback to mother who starts campaign among all young boys of his family not to join army. But the father clarifies the situation and explains the importance of Army. He convinces his wife that who will defend our country if you will discourage children from joining Army. Finally, the mother agrees to send his young son in Army. He is given a grand send off by the members of family. Now, father is happy and excited that his fourth son is going to join Army as per their family traditions.
Actors who performed in the play were Kanta Sharma, Ripu Daman Parihar, Shalu Kumari, Krishma Kumari, Ravi Dhar, Raju Mad and Vijay Malla. The play was written and directed by Vijay Malla.

Burglary in 4 shops at Dera Baba

REASI, June 22:  Thieves struck four shops at Dera Baba in Reasi on the intervening night of June 21-22 and decamped with cash, as well as other items.
Burglary took place in Sharma Kiryana Store, Surinder Stores, Mohd Alam Shop and M/s Pannalal Shop.
From Sharma Kiryana store, Rs 12000 cash, one TV set, juice bottles, Kaju and Rajma were stolen while stolen item from   Surinder stores, include Rs 6000 cash, soap, cold drinks and juice bottles.
Similarly, Rs 3000 cash and some items were stolen from Mohd Alam’s shop.
The thieves had broken locks of the shutters and also damaged lights outside these shops. Rods and master keys were used for the theft purpose.
Police has registered the case but no arrest was made. Suspected gang of scrap dealers has been detained for interrogation purpose, Police said.

Paper mill worker meets fatal accident

KATHUA, June 22: A factory worker was killed after his hand was stuck in a roller of Palli Paper Mill here today while he was working in the mill.
The worker was shifted to District Hospital Kathua where from doctors referred him to GMC Jammu but instead of taking him to GMC the management of the Mill shifted him to a Hospital in Pathankote where he succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Surinder Singh. The Kathua Police ahs registered a case under Section 174 but the same was objected by factory workers and they said the case should be registered under 304 RPC. Ram Paul president Workers Union Kathua said that this is a grave injustice with the working class and police is in league with the management.

No summer break in schools

SRINAGAR, June 22: The State Government today announced ‘no summer break’ for educational institutions in Kashmir, Ladakh and Winter Zone of Jammu division to restore the academic session to pre-flood schedule of last year.
“The Government has decided to restore the academic session in educational institutions of Kashmir division, including Ladakh and Winter Zone of Jammu division as it used to be prior to September 2014 floods,” an official spokesperson said.
“In order to cover the loss of time due to extended academic session of 2014-15, there shall be no summer vacation in the educational institutions of Kashmir, Ladakh and Winter Zone of Jammu division this year,” he said.
Education Minister Naeem Akhtar said, “We have asked State Board of School Education (SBOSE) authorities to prepare for examinations to be conducted in October-November as was the practice before September 2014 floods.”
Conducting examination for the academic session 2014-15 in March 2015 was an exigency in view of the devastating floods that had affected every sphere of life including academics, he said.
“We are now again restoring normalcy in academic calendar,” Akhtar added.
Last year’s devastating floods prompted the authorities to postpone all examinations, scheduled for October-November, to March this year, giving rise to the speculations about permanent change in academic calendar.
Responding to the public queries regarding change in academic calendar, the State Education Department said that academic session in educational institutions of Kashmir division and the winter zone of Jammu division would remain as it used to be prior to September 2014 floods.
“Moreover, the institutions have been asked to take care of any further loss of studies due to shortened academic session 2015-16, by arranging extra classes for the students wherever required so that they are ready for examinations by year-end,” the spokesperson said.
In view of the instructions issued by Education Department, he said examinations up to 10+2 level would be now again conducted in October-November instead of March-April, as was done as a special dispensation after the floods.

ESIC organizes medical check up camp

SRINAGAR, June 22: A first ever health check-up for beneficiaries of ESI Scheme was organized at AEGIS Complex, Rangreth, Srinagar today by a team of doctors and paramedical staff from ESI Dispensaries Rangreth and Khanmoh and ESIC Hospital, Jammu.
Dr Om Prakash, State Medical Commissioner, ESIC, Jammu & Kashmir and Dr Rehana Kausar, Administrative Medical Officer, ESI Scheme, J&K supervised the medical check up operations. Over 160 employees of institution were examined in the health camps. Needy among them were also given medicines on the spot.
Some cases of surgery, hyper tension, eye defects and burn contracture were identified for further treatment and follow up action during the check-up exercise who would be provided detailed cashless medical / surgical treatment through ESIC Model Hospital, Jammu or through any of the specialty tie- up hospitals in Jammu or elsewhere, as the case would require.
Later, discussing the issues relating to ESI Scheme, Labour Secretary Shahid Anayatullah advised the team of ESIC officers led by Arvind Kumar,  Regional Director,  to hold more such camps in hazardous units such as cement and chemical industries and flour mills. It was decided that such health check up camps would be regularly held in Srinagar, concentrating on hazardous industries.
Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC),  J&K region has been administering ESI Scheme for 1.18 lakh covered employees in the State and providing social security to them besides medical services and other benefits to 4.72 lakh beneficiaries.
Under the Scheme, full Medical treatment is provided to the beneficiaries, besides compensation for salary losses due to sickness, accidents, etc as well as pensionary benefits to the dependants of the employee who meet with fatal employment accident during the course of employment.

PPEU discusses demands

JAMMU, June 22: A meeting of Provincial Power Employees Union (PPEU), Jammu Province, was here today here at Rotary Bhawan, Gandhi Nagar, wherein the burning demands of the employees were discussed.
The demands that were discussed in the meeting included conducting DPC of all categories of employees, regularization of daily wagers, implementation of SRO-149 for ITI and non-ITI employees and implementation of SRO-59.
Those who attended the meeting were Shakti Gupta, chairman of the Association, Sanjeev Bali, president, Azaz Qazmi, general secretary, Deep Mehra, organizing secretary, Ram Lal, senior vice-president, Manjeet Singh, district president, Jammu, Rajeev Sharma, president, Division Gandhi Nagar and Subhash Sharma, president, Division-I Parade.

NSUI demands inquiry for delay in scholarship

JAMMU, June 22: National Students Union of India has lambasted the State Government for its callous attitude towards the Pahari students fraternity.
Addressing a press conference Raqeeq Khan, State vice-president, NSUI said that more than 5 crore rupees which were supposed to be distributed among the Pahari students post matric scholarship have lapsed. He demanded for  immediate enquiry. It is very unfortunate on the part of Government that Pahari Advisory Board is working without Vice-Chairman which is not tolerable.
Tanveer Malik, senior NSUI leader also said that it is first and last warning to the State Government to release the scholarship amount in favour of Pahari Students at an earliest and also initiate enquiry against the State Government officials who are responsible for this type of injustice.

JAMMU, June 22: In order to carry out the work of erection on 2 double pole structures for 100 KVA HVDS transformer at Auquaf Market Gandhi Nagar area by M/s IRCON under R-APDRP works, the 11 KV on RC-3 feeder emanating from 33/11 KVA R/Station Railway Complex, the power supply to Gole Market, A-Block Gandhi Nagar and Rampura will remain affected on June 24, 2015 from 8 a m to 10.30 a m.

ABVP takes out rally

KISHTWAR, June 22: Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) took out a rally and demanded implementation of National Anthem in educational institutes.
The rally started from Shahidi Chowk and culminated at DC Office, where a deputation of ABVP met DC Kishtwar Javed Khan and put forth their demand.
DC Kishtwar directed CEO Kishtwar to orders implementation of National Anthem in the morning assembly in all the schools.

City colleges release first cut-off merit list for fresh admission

JAMMU, June 22: All the Government degree colleges in Jammu city, affiliated to Jammu University,  today released their first cut off merit list for admission to various Under Graduation courses.
With 90.2 percent, highest cut off was registered for Bio-Technology course at GCW Gandhi Nagar. For other courses in this college, cut off  percentage for Medical and Non-Medical,  was 85.4 and 74, respectively. Cut off percentage was 84.4 for Commerce, 80 for Computer Applications, 58.8 for Arts and 51.4 for Home Science.
Similarly in  GGM Science College, the cut off percentage for Computer Science, Bio Technology and Functional English was 85.7, 83.60 and 85.20, respectively. For Medical, the cut off percentage was 60.19 and for Non-Medical, it was 68.4 at GGM Science College.
In  SPMR College of Commerce, the cut off percentage for  B Com, BBA and BCA was 64.4, 82.8 and 74.4, respectively.
In MAM College, the cut off percentage for Arts, BCA and Non-Medical was 54.6, 70.8 and 63.4, respectively.
It may be recalled that the GCW Parade had released its first cut-off merit list on June 19.
