Over one lakh tourists visited Kashmir in Feb: Director Tourism

SRINAGAR, Mar 4: The Tourism Department of Kashmir today said that more than one lakh tourists visited the Valley last month alone and that they are hopeful that the number of visitors reaching Kashmir will witness a further increase in coming days.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event here , Director Tourism Kashmir, Fazlul Hafeez said the month of February alone recorded more than one lakh tourists in the Valley and with the start of the blooming season in March, the department is hoping to witness more footfall of the visitors.
Hafeez also said that the department is also working on several methods for data collection concerning the number of tourists and is preparing for the upcoming tourist season so that the number of tourists in the Valley will increase.
“March will see more tourists and we are prepared as several festivals are planned and that are set to attract more and more tourists,” he said.
He further said that the department is working on scientific methods for calculating tourist numbers. “It is the age of big data; we collect data based on scientific methods from registered and unregistered hotels also.
He said that having the right numbers in place will help in the formulation of policies for the betterment of the tourism sector.
About filmmaking, he said that the Department of Information is ensuring the facilitation and that the department of Tourism is often getting queries about it.
