JAMMU, July 29: On the 32nd day of ongoing yatra of Swami Amarnath Ji over 3000 pilgrims paid obeisance at holy cave in South Kashmir district of Anantnag today.
According to an officer on yatra duty, 3131pilgrims performed darshan at holy cave situated at an altitude of 3880 metres in deep Himalalays today. Till date 2,58,487 yatris had the darshan of the Shivlingam at the cave shrine, he added.
He said 841 pilgrims left for holy cave from Nunwan -Pahalgam Base Camp via longest Chandanwari track. Besides, the yatris staying for night at transit camps of Sheshnag and Panjtarni also left for their onwards sojourn in the morning, he added.
He said 808 yatris left for holy cave from Baltal Base Camp while 540 left via chopper. The weather remained cloudy and it drizzled late in the evening in the yatra area. He said 3000 pilgrims are staying at Baltal Base Camp for the night. They included those who returned after performing darshan at holy cave by this evening.
A fresh batch of 709 pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas Jammu for the holy cave early this morning under tight security measures, said Yatra Nodal Officer Jammu, Arun Manhas.
He said 598 yatris including 58 Sadhus were registered at three registration counters here, today and they will leave for holy cave early tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, following the decline in the Swami Amarnathji Yatra, Governor N.N. Vohra who is also the Chairman of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB),today visited the Nunwan Yatra Base Camp, in Pahalgam. He was accompanied by Bhupinder Kumar, Additional CEO of the Shrine Board.
Issues arising from the steady decrease in the daily number of pilgrims were discussed with Surinder Mohan Sharma, Camp Director, Mohd. Younis Malik, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag and other concerned officers. Governor was informed that a good number of pony-wallahs and Palki wallahas had withdrawn and seven out of 10 Langar organizations in the Base Camp would also be leaving in a phased manner as the daily arrival in the camp had reduced considerably.
Governor observed that the existing arrangements would be suitably rationalized after 31st July in consultation with all the authorities involved in organizing the daily convoys of Yatris from Jammu. He noted that this matter had already been discussed with the security forces.
After the conclusion of discussions with the camp officers, Governor went around the Camp, visited the Medical Aid Centre, langars, shops and the area in which toilets/ baths are located.
Thereafter, Governor inspected the newly commissioned 300 KLD capacity Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) which is using Moving Bed Bio-film Reactor (MBBR) Technology. He spent considerable time at the STP and directed Additional CEO to ensure that sample tests of the STP’s final discharge were regularly taken and the test results shown to him. Later, along with Deputy Commissioner and CEO Pahalgam Development Authority, Governor visited the Garbage Dump and the Solid Waste Management Plant at Sarbal, Pahalgam. Governor appreciated the initiatives taken by the DC Anantnag and CEO Pahalgam Development Authority to establish five MT Mechanical Segregator, five MT capacity Auto-Composter and one MT Capacity Electromagnetic Disintegrator for the scientific disposal of solid waste at Sarbal Pahalgam.
Governor directed the DC Anantnag and CEO, PDA to maintain a daily record of the garbage daily brought to the Sarbal Dump, the quantities of garbage treated at the Sarbal Garbage Treatment Plant the quantities of compost generated every month.
