JAMMU, Apr 23: After a brief lull, the outstation students of NIT Srinagar resumed their protest by holding a strong demonstration, here today.
Carrying National tricolour and placards, the protesting students were raising slogans in support of their demands, like permanent deployment of CRPF on NIT campus, reshuffle of the college administration, hoisting of national flag on the campus etc.
A number of NSUI activists also joined the protesting NIT students, who announced to continue boycott of their regular class work till their demands are conceded.
The protesting students also took out a march from the Exhibition Ground to GGM Science College. Even as Police tried to stop them initially, no force was used and the students took out peaceful march amidst raising of slogans in support of their demands and against the HRD Ministry.
Pertinent to mention that all the outstation students of NIT Srinagar had left the campus after an incident of clash with locals and thereafter a brutal Police lathicharge of them during a peaceful protest.
These students are demanding permanent deployment of the CRPF on the campus with no State administration control, reshuffling of college administration and restructuring of NIT Srinagar administration by introducing cadre system, immediate formation of Student’s Council on the lines of top NITs/IITs, online Special Grievance Redressal Mechanism (SGRM) exclusively for NIT Srinagar directly monitored by the MHRD, action against JK Police and State administration involved in the incident and action against faculty members who are harassing students academically.
