Srinagar, Dec 26: In the recently held examinations for the Accounts Assistant, Panchayat by the JKSSB, an orphan from South Kashmir’s Anantnag has figured at the top of the merit list issued by the Board.
The topper, Abdul Shakoor Itoo, in his late twenties, belongs to a village in Qazigund, known as Damjan. Shakoor has figured at the top of the list with 107.25 points out of 120.
Shakoor expressed his happiness over the feat that he has achieved, while also stating that he feels confident enough of cracking the competitive exams that he might appear in the future.
“I was not expecting this much, though there were feelings that I might be in the first 10 toppers, but this is something beyond that,” Shakoor told Excelsior over phone.
Regarding his early education, he has had his basic education from Iqbal Public School, Vessu and passed his class 10 from Islamia Model Public School, Hablishi. He cleared his class 12 from a Higher Secondary School and later pursued a bachelors degree in Arts distance mode from the University of Kashmir.
He left civil engineering course at Islamic University of Science and Technology, but could not continue due to financial constraints. “I have given all to it from August till the day the exam was held. I focused on it entirely and the result is in front of you,” Shakoor said.
He had to go for distance mode due to the financial constraints that he faced since the day his father died when he was in class 5. Shakoor completed his graduation in 2018 and is the only male in his family living with his mother and two younger sisters.
Shakoor had to go through a lot after his father died and at the same time he gives the credit of this success to his mother and his teachers, who, he said, helped him through thick and thin.
He said that the prayers of his mother are the reason behind his success and that she has always been supportive of him. Jubilant Shakoor was sure that he would crack the examination, but securing the top slot has come as a surprise to even him.
In his message to fellow candidates, Shakoor impressed on the need of consistency, which as per him, is the key. “Focus, hard work and consistency is the key here; it is the result of these three elements that I have figured at the top,” he said.
