JAMMU, Apr 7: The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA), Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu and Associated Hospitals, expressed strong concern about the treatment and safety of the patients as far as the Government Order regarding prescription of Generic drugs in Government hospitals is concerned.
In a meeting of the association held here, RDA president, Dr Neeraj Sharma said, “This order is highly anti people as it is a dangerous step as far as the patient safety is concerned as all the control is supposed to be in the hands of medicine sellers and they will only sell those drugs where they have large profits without any control on quality and prices”.
He said that we wear branded clothes, eat branded food, purchase branded goods then how is it possible to leave the patient at the mercy of chemists who may sell only expensive and low quality drugs to poor and uneducated patients.
“Only provision of 70-80 drugs has been made in the Jan Aushadi Kendras. If the Government is really concerned it should have made provision of all medicines in hospitals rather than benefitting the medicine sellers and generic drug companies”, said Dr Sajan Bijyal of RDA.
On the issue of dress code, they said that mere forcing the Doctors to adhere to it won’t solve the problem let the whole hospital staff be included in it as per the order. But the administration is obsessed with Aprons of Doctors only, they added.
Meanwhile, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) also expressed strong resentment over the order on Generic drugs. The Association said that without making the medicines available under generic names in the hospitals across the State, how a doctor could push the poor patient to the discretion of the chemist who lacks the basic knowledge of the pharmacology of the drugs.
“This order will also hit the livelihood of thirty thousand youths and their families of the State who are directly or indirectly associated with the pharma trade. Doctors will have no objection to abide by the order if all the medication under the generic name are made available in the hospitals and it seems that at present Government is not prepared for making the medicines available in hospitals”, the Association said and hoped that Government will immediately revoke this order and will not force the doctors to start an agitation.
