Opposition stages walkout over New Industrial Policy amendment

Srinagar, June 23: Opposition Congress and National Conference (NC) legislators today staged a walkout from Legislative Council as Government didn’t make any statement over amendment in New Industrial Policy even as Chairman Anayat Ali had directed the State yesterday to respond after uproar.
After the Question Hour was over in the Upper House, the members of Congress and National Conference stood up from their benches and sought the Statement of Government. The Congress legislator, Ghulam Nabi Monga, reminded the Chairman of  his direction to Government yesterday and demanded statement.
However, the Minister for Law, Abdul Haq Khan, feigned ignorance about any such direction as he wasn’t present in the House that time yesterday. He, however, said the Government will issue statement today or tomorrow with regard to the amendment in New Industrial Policy.
Unsatisfied with the reply of the Minister, the members of Opposition staged walkout from the House. On Wednesday, the Congress lawmaker, Monga, had asked Government what prompted it to amend the Industrial Policy 2016. “Is it because of separatists’ pressure?” he had asked.
