SRINAGAR: A delegation of opposition parties, led by National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah, today met Governor N N Vohra and demanded that a session of the State Legislature be called in this summer capital to discuss various issue confronted by people, including alleged attempts being made to abrogate Article 35-A.
The delegation, which included NC general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress (JKPCC) chief G A Mir, CPI M leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, DPN president G H Mir, chairman Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, besides other senior NC and Congress leaders, apprised the Governor about the prevailing situation in the State at Raj Bhawan here today.
“We are not demanding any special session of the Legislature. What we are demanding is the session which is due under the constitution. It is a concern raised by all sections of the society that Legislature sessions convened in Kashmir valley is not for sufficient time,” Mr Tarigami told reporters.
He said the Government some time back called for a session of Legislature but that was only for two days that too to discuss a specific issue — implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the State. “But, that can’t be a substitute for a regular session,” he added.
He said delegation raised various issues confronted by the common masses, including mis-governance of the State Government, misappropriation in appointments in various Government posts, corruption, and slow pace of development in J&K. (AGENCIES)
