Only approved projects to be taken up in future: Wani

SRINAGAR, July 2: Minister for Roads & Buildings Abdul Majid Wani today chaired a meeting convened to put an end to the problems being confronted by the contractors’ community in their day to day occupational activities here today.
Among others, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and Principal Secretary, Finance B B Vyas, Commissioner Secretary, R&B Tanveer Jehan, Commissioner Sales Tax Kifayat Rizvi, besides representatives of J&K Contractors Coordination Committee and Contractors’ Association attended the meeting.
Terming contractor community as part of the construction system, the Minister said that without their collaboration no infrastructural development is possible in the country and the State.
The Minister said that the Government is abreast with the problems of the contractor community, adding that their redressal is the priority of the government.
Mr. Wani said that standing instructions have been passed to take up only such projects which have approved funds to avoid liability. He said that the liabilities would only be cleared after the funds are received from the concerned quarters.
Giving patient hearing to the demands projected by the deputation which include early release of payment for works already completed, filling Sales Tax returns, exemption of petty and D-Class contractors from e-tendering, exemption from double taxation, implementation of works schedule 2012 and double sided agreement etc, the Minister assured them that their genuine demands would be looked into and redressed in phased manner.
