PULWAMA, Dec 22: Students continue to face trouble in submitting online application forms for NEET examination as well as for various scholarships being offered by the Government of India across Kashmir, particularly in districts like Pulwama and Shopian.
Owing to the non-availability of internet services across Kashmir for last more than 130 days now, the district administrations had set up facilitation centres for the students across Kashmir. However, the students are claiming that the facilities being provided were not sufficient to fill up these online forms.
A student from Awantipora in district Pulwama told Excelsior that the facilities were not sufficient and that a lot of time was getting consumed in submitting one single NEET application form. As per students, there are just few computers that have been put out for their use.
“I have been coming here for last couple of days and at the end of every day, I am returning home without filling up the form; there is a lot of influx of students to this centre set up by the administration, making it difficult to secure a slot to submit the form,” said Mubashir Kareem, a resident of Chursoo Awantipora.
Recently, the plight of students who were trying hard to submit their NEET application forms was reported by this newspaper, following which the divisional administration increased the strength of such centres across Srinagar.
The administration, with the help of NEET authorities, also opened offline form submission counters in Srinagar. However, not a single counter of such a nature was opened in other districts of the Valley.
Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama, Raghav Langar told Excelsior that the administration was doing whatever that it can. “We have set up 30 kiosks for the students and if we add up more, the speed will decrease; we will be doing more in coming days,” he said.
In Shopian, on the other hand, the students said they are facing trouble in submitting their application forms. Pervaiz Ahmad, a handicapped student from Trenz area of Shopian told Excelsior that he has been coming to the centre for last more than three days to submit a scholarship form.
“It seems something which is not going to end at all; I have been doing rounds of the Information Centre set up by the admin; but days have passed, I am yet to submit my much needed scholarship form,” he said.
Apart from facing difficulty in securing a slot to submit the application forms, the students alleged that the internet speed is too slow, which is again consuming so much of their time. They are also alleging that the administration made fewer computers available for their use.
Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, Chowdhary Muhammad Younis said that a good number of computer systems have been made available for the students and that they were being offered with the services. He, however, acknowledged that opening up of the offline form submission counters in district would have made a difference.
