“Apart from finishing militancy and winning confidence of common man, the cyber threat and attempts to vitiate peace using Social Media have become fresh challenges for police. Efforts are being made to engineer social conflict using Social Medical platform. It has become new responsibility of the police to meet these threats,’’ Sinha said.
He was speaking at Attestation-cum-Passing-Out-Parade of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs Probationers), 13th batch and Probationary Sub Inspectors (PSIs), 24th Batch at Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) Udhampur.
A total of three DySPs (Prob) and 583 PSIs, including 553 males and 30 females completed their rigorous training today at SKPA. Oath was administered to the passing out cadets for performing their duties with dedication and honesty.
Asserting that false propaganda is being spread using Social Media and other platform to disturb peace and law & order, Sinha said police was first responder as well as target and called for making Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of critical assets to save them from cyber attacks.
“Tackling such organized apparatus and network is very crucial for peaceful social order. I believe that to fight this gang of global networks, our young officers with Communication and Technology background will be a multiplier force,’’ Sinha observed.
Maintaining that challenges will keep changing with time, from basic policing to dark web crime, from regular crimes to forensics, the Lieutenant Governor said the biggest deterrent to crime is effective investigation and conviction of criminals. The way in which investigation is done in Jammu and Kashmir is commendable, he asserted.
“In future new techniques need to be implemented. We have seen flash mob disrupting activities triggered by Social Media. Karnataka has set an exampled by tackling flash mobs effectively. Many States have studied Karnataka model,’’ the Lieutenant Governor said.
“Effectively tackling new challenges like Cyber Crime and Radicalization would prove to be a benchmark of strength and ability of the new and young police officers,’’ Sinha said.
He added that public service and sacrifice is the proud legacy of Jammu and Kashmir Police. The feeling that a common man should feel safe and secure and live his life without any fear is in the DNA of JKP, he asserted.
“Now, you have become active members of the police force, and it is your primary role to ensure the law and order in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. Along with eradicating terrorism from J&K, you are entrusted with the responsibility of earning the trust of common people. Honesty, integrity, hard-work and dedication will help you in discharging your duties efficiently”, Sinha said.

The J&K Government is committed to supporting the JKP in each and every possible way, he added.
The Lieutenant Governor pointed out that passing out parade of the police officers was delayed as they were deployed on COVID duty followed by elections to District Development Councils (DDCs) and Panchayats in the middle of their training.
“Many times, security experts talk about “Last Man at the Post”. They are those officers and constables of the police who are posted at the frontline for maintaining law and order, their work is not just limited to controlling crime of an area, but also to share good and difficult times with the people,’’ the Lieutenant Governor observed.
“Police is required everywhere, in quarrels of neighbours, at schools, markets, to open roads of the city, in villages, during festivals, and in counter insurgency. Police is always there to serve people facing traditional as well as modern challenges.
