One year imprisonment in accident case

JAMMU, Oct 30: Observing that a deterrent punishment is required in road accident cases, Special Mobile Magistrate Electricity Aarti Mohan has awarded one-year imprisonment to a car driver for killing pedestrians in 2009.
According to the prosecution case, on 17-04-2009 a Maruti car bearing No. JK02F-1414 which was being driven by accused Nissar Ahmed in rash manner knocked down two pedestrians namely Sansar Chand and Krishna Rani.
After hearing APP Anil Saini for the Police, the court observed, “the challan in hand is pending for the considerable long period of time and accused is facing trial since the year 2009”, adding “the accused is sentenced to simple imprisonment of one year under Section 304-A RPC. He is further sentenced to simple imprisonment of one month under Section 279 RPC. Both the sentences shall run concurrently”.
