One-way traffic on Kashmir highway, restricted traffic on Mughal road

SRINAGAR : Only one-way traffic will ply on the national highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country today while restricted traffic was restored on historic Mughal road.

A traffic police official told UNI that Kashmir highway was through for traffic from both sides. However, to allow smooth movement of vehicles carrying employees shifting to winter capital, Jammu, only down convoy was allowed today on the highway.

Darbar, seat of the government, including the office of Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues, top bureaucrats and Director General of police will reopen at Jammu tomorrow to work for six winter months.

No vehicle, including those of security forces and Army would be allowed from Jammu to Srinagar today, he said, adding that from tomorrow, both way traffic will be allowed.  Though snow was cleared on the Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, the road remains slippery during the morning and evening hours.

He said drivers and other who are planning to travel on the road have been advised to take extra care and contact police before starting the journey.

It has been decided to allow traffic only during the day when the temperature is good and frozen surface melts, he said. (UNI)
