Only one party in opposition obstructing nation’s progress: Modi

NEW DELHI: Stating that most political parties were cooperating with government in the larger national interest, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that only one party is adopting obstructionist approach on every issue, regardless of the negative consequences for the nation.
In a written response to the questionnaires given by more than one media houses, the Prime Minister also listed out achievement of his 25 month long Government and its future plans.
On the upcoming Monsoon Session of the Parliament, Mr Modi said in terms of the legislative agenda, most parties have cooperated with the Government in the national interest.
Without naming Congress directly, the Prime Minister said, “The fact is that barring one party, the Opposition has been constructive in pursuing the larger national interest.
The whole nation knows that it is only one party which had been unable to adjust to the reality of its defeat, he added.
The Prime Minister’s media interviews have come shortly before the Parliament Session which is to commence on July 18. Mr Modi has tried to strike a conciliatory note with the parties in Opposition barring Congress, which may be seen a changed tactic on part of the government to isolate the main opponent.
On the crucial GST Bill, the Prime Minister said the public in states like UP, Bihar and West Bengal will be the biggest beneficiaries. “Therefore, I do not think any political party will try to commit suicide by opposing GST. You have asked about the deadline for GST. As an optimist, I believe more in lifelines than in deadlines,” he said.
Pitching for political reforms the Prime Minister advocated holding of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections simultaneously. “One significant issue these days is the influence of money power in elections. The government’s work comes to a standstill during elections. That is why many people are calling for holding the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections simultaneously. If this happens, the character of the Rajya Sabha will also be in tune,” he said. (AGENCIES)
