One LeT terrorist was killed last night when he attacked a police picket at Anantnag’s Achabal

Srinagar : Security forces repulsed a major terror attack and killed a top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative in Achabal area of Anantnag district of south Kashmir late Friday. A cop was also injured in the gun battle.

The incident occurred at midnight when heavily-armed terrorists attacked a police point at Achabal. However, the attack was successfully repulsed by the alert jawans on duty.

“In the retaliatory action one terrorist was killed. The weapon of the terrorist was also recovered from the site of attack,” said a police spokesperson.

The slain terrorist has been identified as Bilal Ahmad of Tatripora Yaripora in District Kulgam. Bilal had joined the proscribed terror outfit LeT three months ago.

“His involvement was also established in a weapon-snatching case earlier. He was involved in terror attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities in the area,” the spokesperson added.

A jawan was also injured during the firing. He has been evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical attention where police have said that his condition has stabilized.
