One killed, two injured in road mishap at Sidhra; people protest

JAMMU, Oct 23: The death of a youth in a road mishap at Sidhra triggered a protest this evening by the family members and relatives outside Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu.
According to police sources, three youth identified as Arif Ahmed (28) son of Nishad Ahmed, resident of Rajpura (Gandhi Nagar), Abhishek Kumar (22) of Digiana and Rahul Sajgotra (21) received serious injuries today at about 6 PM when a bike bearing registration number JK02BW-0296 on which they were travelling, was hit by an unknown vehicle.
“On getting information, Sidhra police rushed to the spot and shifted all the injured to GMC Jammu, where Arif Ahmed was declared as brought dead by the doctors. However, other two youths were responding to the treatment”, they said, adding body of the deceased was shifted to mortuary room of the hospital and a case in this connection was registered at police station Nagrota.
Meanwhile, family members and relatives of the deceased assembled at Bakshi Nagar in front of entrance gate of GMC Jammu and held a protest. They demanded immediate arrest of the accused driver of the unknown vehicle involved in the mishap.
Some of the protestors also reached Vikram Chowk and blocked main Tawi bridge for about 15-20 minutes, demanding immediate arrest of the accused and seizure of his vehicle. However, police managed to remove the protestors from Vikram Chowk by assuring them of appropriate action in the case. But the protest at Bakshi Nagar was still on when the last reports came in.
