One killed, 29 injured in road mishap

KATHUA, July 18: One person died while 29 passengers were injured eight of them seriously when two matadors collided head on at village Khandwal in border area of Marheen tehsil in Kathua district today.
The deceased has been identified as Joginder Kumar, S/o Prem Nath of village Balasa Kho in Marheen tehsil. His body was kept at Hiranagar Sub District Hospital for postmortem which will be performed tomorrow and the body will be handed over to family after that.
Police said two matadors bearing registration umber JKAL 2546 which was on way from Khandwal to Sanji More and JK21-3415 which was on way from Sanji More to Khandwal collided at Khandwal resulting into the death of one passenger and injuries to 29 others. There were total 30 passengers in two matadors, police added.
The drivers of both the matadors fled after the accident, police said, adding a case under relevant Sections of the law has been registered against them at police station Marheen and police has started investigation also.
Out of 29 injured passengers the eight are serious and were shifted to GMCH Jammu for treatment. Others were taken to SDH Hiranagar and DH Kathua where their condition is stated to be stable, police added.
The seriously injured passengers include four members of a family i.e Ravi Kumar, his wife Lata Kumari, and two children Gopi and Krishak residents of Vijaypur, Shashi Pal, S/o Gian Chand of Ladwal, Chanchala Devi W/o Khem Raj of Tanda, Bishan Dass of Khandwal and Dwarikanath of Hari Chak.
