One more JDA worker shifted to hospital, strike enters 14th day

JAMMU, Aug 21: While protest dharna  and fast- unto- death strike of JDA Employees Union entered 14th consecutive day today, one more fasting employee was rushed to GMC Hospital here after his condition deteriorated today.
These employees are on strike/ protest dharna  since August 8. From August 11, they launched chain hunger strike and then intensifying struggle,  and went on fast-unto death strike from August 17. They are demanding appointment of  beneficiaries under SRO 43 as per the norms adopted by the Government in other departments like Local Bodies, Municipal Corporation, Housing and Urban Development Department.
President of the Union, Ashok Singh is already hospitalized while, Subhash Singh was shifted to hospital on Sunday by police. Today the condition of another employees, Manchal Singh,  sitting on hunger strike deteriorated and he too, was removed to GMC hospital. After treatment he was discharged and he again resumed his strike at the venue at JDA Complex, at Rail Head.
The Union president  Ashok Singh alleged that no efforts have   been done by the DyCM (minister incharge) Dr Nirmal Singh, Commissioner/ Secretary  Housing and Urban Development  and the Vice Chairman of the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) for breaking the dead-lock and solve the issue. He alleged that family memvers of those employees who died in harness are suffering for the last several years.
The Union leader said that though JDA is also wing of Housing and Urban Development  Department, yet the same  rule is not applicable on the JDA employees. This is great injustice with the JDA employees and Government must make amendment in the rules. The Union also demanded relaxation in age and qualification for the JDA workers, allotment of plots to the employees and finalization of draft recruitment rules for JDA employees.  He warned to take this agitation to the logical conclusion  and condemned the attitude of Jammu legislators and ministers who did not intervene and turn up to the dharna site.
